Reading Comprehension Skills and Strategies Flex (4 Weeks)

Does your student need help comprehending what they are reading or answering reading comprehension questions? If so this one class is a great fit for your student! In this class, I will explain and demonstrate skills and strategies to help them be successful in taking reading classroom tests, standardized tests, state tests, and EOG's. 

In this course, I will teach how to comprehend what they are reading by utilizing a strategy that involves a combination of simple note taking (only a few words at a time) and summarizing sections of what they are reading. I will then teach how to focus on important parts of the question to utilize when looking for "evidence" for their answer. This strategy truly takes out the guess work and stress of working on reading comprehension passages and questions. I feel this will give your student confidence when reading comprehension passages. 

Week 1: Introducing Strategy 
Week 2: Understanding Reading Strategy  
Week 3: Applying Reading Strategy 
Week 4: Practicing Strategy  

Each week on Tuesday and Thursday, I will include an instructional videos based on that weeks specific topic. I will provide the lesson for each week so that students can follow along and takes notes. I recommend doing this to truly understand how to utilize this strategy and to get the most out of this course. I will supply weekly optional but recommended short assignments for your student so that they can practice the weekly skill to show understanding. I will give feedback for assignments submitted. If your student is wanting or needing more in depth "live" practice, I recommend contacting me to sign up for a session. 

Overall, I will provide the foundational tools to help your child be more successful in reading comprehension passages and questions. This will in turn build their confidence level in reading comprehension and reading comprehension questions.
