Reading Comprehension & Fluency Practice - READING DETECTIVE 2.0 ~ 3rd 4th 5th
Catch up, Keep up, or Get Ahead! In this weekly reading comprehension class, students will practice various reading comprehension skills to become expert reading detectives. Parent feedback and additional practice for students is provided.

This can stand alone or may be used to complement our Reading Comprehension and Fluency - BECOME A READING DETECTIVE - 3rd 4th 5th, class. This class provides additional weekly practice on the skills taught in the Become A Reading Detective class. The Becoming the Reading Detective class provides more direct instruction on each skill. We use 4th-grade material to help students practice reading fluency and comprehension strategies. Each class is aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Please see the chart below for the exact details of each standard. What to Expect: In this interactive class, students will: *Read Aloud: Practice fluency through round-robin reading of teacher-provided stories. *Learn Vocabulary: Enhance vocabulary with context clues. *Develop Comprehension Skills: Focus on main ideas, details, inference, character analysis, figurative language, author’s purpose, and more. Each week students will read a fiction or non-fiction text followed by a variety of reading comprehension questions to test understanding. As we read, students will receive real-time assistance with pronunciation, fluency, and reading techniques. Each class is engaging and interactive, fostering a supportive learning environment. We also offer periodic feedback on student progress. Please ensure your communication settings are enabled on Outschool to receive updates. CCSS = Common Core State Standards - These examples are for 4th grade but cover 3rd - 6th Key Ideas and Details: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.1 Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.2 Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.3 Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character's thoughts, words, or actions). Craft and Structure: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including those that allude to significant characters found in mythology (e.g., Herculean). CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.5 Explain major differences between poems, drama, and prose, and refer to the structural elements of poems (e.g., verse, rhythm, meter) and drama (e.g., casts of characters, settings, descriptions, dialogue, stage directions) when writing or speaking about a text. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.8 (RL.4.8 not applicable to literature) CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.9 Compare and contrast the treatment of similar themes and topics (e.g., opposition of good and evil) and patterns of events (e.g., the quest) in stories, myths, and traditional literature from different cultures. Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.10 By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poetry, in the grades 4-5 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.

Pre-Requisites
Although not necessary, Becoming A Reading Detective is the intro to this class providing a deeper dive into each reading comprehension skill needed for reading success. This class is designed to be additional practice in those skills.
