CATCH UP, KEEP UP, OR GET AHEAD!

*Students can start this class at any time. No printouts are needed before class. Optional practice worksheets are provided after each class to reinforce each new skill taught and teacher/parent communication is important to us.

Reading comprehension skills are necessary for academic success. This class is designed for students needing to catch up, keep up, or get ahead with reading fluency and reading comprehension skills.

In this course, students will learn to use clues from their reading to better understand and retain what they read. Learners will practice reading aloud (fluency), learn new vocabulary (context clues practice), and learn and practice reading comprehension strategies such as the main idea, details, inference skills, character analysis, author's purpose, and more. Each class is aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Please see the chart below for the exact details of each standard.

This class is interactive with a lot of student engagement. Each session begins with an introduction to a specific reading comprehension strategy using a PowerPoint presentation. After the skill introduction, we will practice the skill by reading teacher-provided stories together. Students will take turns reading round-robin style throughout the lesson and answering questions.

As students read, we will assist them as needed with pronunciation, fluency, and proper reading techniques. The reading material provided in class is on the 4th-grade reading level. However, we are here to assist all students with reading the passages as needed.

Students can come and go as needed in this class. You will notice we cover a lot of topics more than once. This allows new students to gain exposure and ongoing students to get additional review and practice. Although the topic repeats, we use different reading and practice materials for each class.

As teachers and parents, we understand the importance of communication between parents and teachers. We communicate with parents regularly to share our feedback and suggestions. We also encourage you to reach out to us with any questions, comments, or concerns. We are here for you and your students. With that being said, please make sure you have your communication settings turned on so you will be notified when correspondence is sent.

After each class, we also provide parents with the details of what was taught and students will receive a reading comprehension practice on the same topic. We teach "Practice Makes Progress!" This practice is not graded by us, but the answers will be included for you (the parent or guardian) allowing you to assess the student at home as well.

We are friendly, patient, and encouraging teachers who meet students where they are academically to help them see success.

This class is offered throughout the year. Students can come and go as needed. Although you will see topics repeated, different reading activities are used. All classes will be on the same weekly topic.

                                                                       MEET OUR TEACHERS

PAIGE HOWELL~ Hi, I am the owner of Achieve Learning Partners, LLC. I hold a BS from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from the University of Louisville. I hold an internationally recognized TESOL certification and have taught ESL to children ages 3-16.

I love teaching and I love learning. I have been in the field of education for 30 years. In those 30+ years, I have taught, substituted, and owned a Sylvan Learning Center.

As a teacher, I have taught all academic subjects for elementary-age students and study skills to middle school, high school, and college students. I put my heart and soul into my students and classes. I work hard to meet students right where they are and scaffold my teaching to test student retention and base knowledge.

I love to make learning fun and engaging while also encouraging students to use their critical thinking skills. As a mother and teacher, I know it takes a village - teacher, parent, and student and I want to be part of your village.

More about me - I am a mother of two boys. I lived on the East Coast in Jacksonville, Florida for over 30 years. However, in the summer of 2020, my husband and I became empty nesters and took off on a new adventure as his job relocated us to Colorado. We are an active family that loves exploring the outdoors and all that comes with it from the animals to the topography.

I am a lifelong learner and an avid reader but have fallen in love with audio books that I can listen to ALL the time. Therefore, you will often find me hiking and listening to a book at the same time (enjoying two of my favorite things at one time).

I hope to see you in class soon. ~ Paige

                                            ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In my classes, your students will find meaningful lessons designed to keep students engaged while having fun learning online. I am an energetic teacher who works hard to build the skills and confidence a student needs to be successful. I also like to get to know my students. I know that building that relationship and trust is important for a student’s academic success. Communication is also very important to me.  Clear and prompt communication is my promise, If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to drop me a message.
On a more personal note, I have been happily married for 15 years. As a homeschooling mom of three wonderful kids, I've got a full house that includes two furry feline friends and an energetic pup. I reside in the Sunshine State of Florida.
I can't wait to see you in my classroom! ~ Courtney
RHONDA SAVAGE - For over 22 years, I've passionately dedicated myself to teaching, focusing on reading and math for grades K-5. As a Dyslexia Endorsed Educator, LETRS-trained educator, Certified Reading Specialist, and Orton-Gillingham Instructor, I love helping students master essential foundational skills.
Outside of work, I'm a mother of four, and I enjoy cooking and exploring different cuisines, which brings my family together. I'm also a huge Disney fan, from visiting the parks to enjoying Disney movies. My life blends nurturing young minds, culinary creativity, shopping, and spending quality time with family.
I also offer 1-1 tutoring on my own Outschool profile. Check it out here- https://outschool.com/teachers/Rhonda-Savage?signup=true&usid=AR3cuFFE
ASHLEY HARPER - As a former public school teacher in Ohio, I have earned a bachelor’s degree in Middle Childhood Education: Math, Language Arts, & K-12 Reading and a master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction: Gifted & Talented Education. Over the past 10 years as an educator in both public school and virtual learning settings, I have tutored 4th through 9th Grade Math, Reading, and Writing, and I have also taught 6th and 8th Grade Math to all levels of learners, Algebra I to enriched/gifted students, and K-12 English Language Arts and Reading to international students.
As a member of the Achieve Learning Partners teaching team, I currently teach a variety of reading comprehension and fluency classes to 1st through 5th-grade learners. Additionally, I offer a variety of personalized math tutoring opportunities for middle school students through my own Outschool platform. Feel free to explore my other classes here - https://outschool.com/teachers/Ashley-Harper-2023
While teaching and tutoring, I find the greatest joy in helping students master skills they previously found challenging by providing plenty of practice, encouragement from me, and making connections to what they are learning. I love providing my students with multiple opportunities to interact with new skills while also encouraging them to select learning strategies that work best for them and connect most to them along the way. An important part of learning anything new is a positive mindset and willingness to give your very best effort as you explore and practice - I am here to help!
My continuous goal will always be to help students grow their confidence, self-awareness, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills from class to class, learn from mistakes, stretch their thinking, and learn something new!
Although much of my time is spent teaching and tutoring, outside of the classroom I love spending time with my family - my husband, our sweet baby girl, and our spunky dog - as well as enjoying family hikes, curling up with a good book, practicing yoga, and baking new recipes for my family to try!
I cannot wait to meet YOU and get to know you more as an individual and as a learner!
See you in class! ~ Ashley
JACLYN KRULIA (MS. Jackie) - I earned my Bachelor's from the University of Georgia and my Masters from American College of Education (in Curriculum and Instruction).  I'm a certified elementary school teacher with 15 years of general education classroom experience in grades 1-3.  In that time I was nominated for Teacher of the Year several times and won in 2020-2021.   I became an online school teacher in 2024.
I strongly believe the instruction in the classroom should be guided by the students.  The teacher’s role is to foster a community of learners by developing a foundation of trust and respect among the diverse classroom students.  The positive atmosphere created will then grant both the teacher and the students liberty to take creative risks.  I prefer a teaching style that's interactive and hands-on, making it fun and engaging. Seeing kids enjoy the learning process truly warms my heart.  Children are our most precious gifts, and I'm passionate about helping them become their best selves!
KRISTEN LONG ~ Holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University. I am a certified elementary educator in two states. I hold PreK-5 teaching certification with an ESOL
endorsement in Ohio. In Florida, I hold K-6 teaching certification in elementary education and
K-12 certification in English for Speakers of Other Languages. I have 8 years of experience as a
general elementary classroom teacher and 15 years of experience working with children in
educational settings overall.
As a general educator, I taught kindergarten for 3 years and second grade for 5 years.
Throughout this time, I worked with students of varying needs and ability levels, including ESE
and ESOL. In my most recent role, I was department head of second grade while concurrently
teaching a gifted and enrichment cluster of 18 students. No matter what level my students start
at, my joy in teaching comes from providing students with scaffolded support and watching each student gain confidence in themselves as they progress.
My teaching style is very student-centered. I enjoy creating a class environment where students
not only feel a sense of belonging but also know that their unique perspectives and contributions
to learning are valued by myself and their peers. I make an effort to incorporate project-based
learning where I can, and allow students choice. I like to encourage students through their
frustrations as I firmly believe self-confidence and creative problem-solving skills are developed
through facing challenges, taking chances, making mistakes, and learning through them.
In addition to my work with Achieve Learning Partners, I also offer classes and tutoring for
elementary-aged students on my personal Outschool page which you can access here:
https://outschool.com/teachers/Teacher-Ms-Long
When it comes to my personal life, spending time with my family is very important to me. I also
love to spend my off time on nature walks and hikes. I am very creative, and interested in science,
and I like to travel and experience other cultures. I enjoy completing puzzles and practicing both
yoga and meditation.
I am excited to support your child’s educational journey and to collaborate with you, the parents,
to foster emotional and academic growth.
Your partner in learning! ~ Kristen Long
