Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 3
Each week in this class, students will be provided a new reading passage to practice their reading comprehension and fluency skills. As we read, we will discuss vocabulary, context clues, inferencing, main ideas, and reading strategies. Each student will be provided the option of reading aloud.

Our class schedule will be as follows:

1. Greeting/Share: Each student will have the opportunity to share using a prompt on the screen. If your student would like to be able to write on the screen, Please know where the annotate button is on Zoom before class for this feature.
2.)Skill practice: Reading strategies will be provided before the reading begins to ensure students have best practices for their comprehension.
3.)Comprehension Practice: Students will be using the popcorn method for the reading passage so more than one student has the option to read. We will review any unknown vocabulary found in the text and discuss inferences within the text.
4.)Multiple Choice Questions: Students will answer multiple-choice questions about the passage they read in class. Any questions that students get incorrect or are unsure about will be reviewed in class. *Students can have a pencil and paper for class if they like to take notes while reading or need a space to sort out thoughts or questions.
5.)Closing and questions: Students will have the opportunity to ask any questions and share their thoughts and insights.

*Before class, the students will be provided with a printable version of the passage and questions, along with a copy of the reading strategies.

Hello!

My name is Michelle. I am so glad you found me on Outschool! Let me tell you a little about myself.

I have been teaching since 2009. I have my masters degree in special education. I have the patience and passion for working with students who have special needs. I have worked closely with the autism community since 2012. I have taught students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. I have worked closely with children who have been diagnosed with Dyslexia, ODD, Dysgraphia, Autism, ADD, ADHD, Downs Syndrome and those who need social and emotional support. Every child is different and I love teaching students strategies to use not only in academics but as life skills as well. I am an avid reader and writer. I have self-published two books and I am working on more. I love my job because it is challenging and rewarding!

I'm also an online certified TESOL and ESL teacher. I teach children in China how to read and speak English. I've taught over one thousand classes and over three hundred students via this platform. This has given me a tremendous amount of experience teaching children online.

In addition, I have taught children in a preschool setting. I know how important it is to be lively and energetic in order to keep young children's attention. It's also important to be patient and understanding. This experience helped me see the world through the eyes of a child!

I believe that every child is different! Each child has his or her own strengths. Each child has his or her own personality. Each child has the potential to learn and grow in different ways. It is my goal as a teacher to meet those different needs of each unique child.

I will be teaching a variety of classes on Outschool that will instill a love of learning about the world around us. I love teaching many different subjects. My favorite is Language arts.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three children! I am the mom a 8 year old, 7 year old and 4 year old. I love spending time showing them the world around them. Arts and crafts is one of our favorite past times!

Thank you for taking the time to learn all about me! I can't wait to meet and get to know your child!

Have a great day!

Teacher Michelle
