Class title: Reading Boost: Empowering Dyslexic Readers by reading the play adaption "Aliens Ate My Homework" This stand-alone session is both a teaching and diagnostic. Using an adaption of the book Aliens Ate My Homework, students will read one character or narration part. As students engage in reading, my problem-solving skills work. Through listening and questioning, I’m identifying the child's literacy needs. When a child fails to decode a word accurately, I can ask many questions about why. This class includes: Immersive Theater: Being part of a play. Students are not just reading words; they’re living them. The stage, the characters, the emotions—they all come alive. Word Fusion: They decode tricky words, understand deeper meanings, and allow students to connect the dots. Comprehension Magic: Understanding is key. It’s not just about saying the words; it’s about grasping the whole picture. Think of it as solving a puzzle. When you get it, it’s like finding the missing piece. Humor Spark: Laughter is the secret ingredient. Imagine a funny character popping up in the story. Suddenly, reading isn’t a chore—it’s a joy. Humor makes the journey smoother. This will be an interactive class, with students reading the part of a character. If a student feels uncomfortable reading a part, I will have them listen to others read.
