Readers Are Leaders Book Club

This is a class that pre-teens need, an option to read and chat together. A class dedicated to discussing novels at their age-appropriate level. From classics to newer writings, the choice is the groups for each new set of classes.

Class Experience

This class is for those kids who love to read, need to read, or want to learn to love to read. Many times, people think they don't like reading, but really, they just haven't found the genre they prefer and actually enjoy. This is an opportunity to try some different choices in novels, whether they be classics or newer authors we all get to discover together. Each week will be a set number of chapters to have read (if you choose to read ahead, please not spoilers).
Throughout the hour each week students will be given the opportunities to voice their opinions on characters, events that happen in the story, and other thoughts about the author or how the story is written.
I will give students the opportunity to ask questions of the group, I will instigate questions of the group, and we'll see where the discussion takes us.
Students will be offered 3 choices to choose from for the coming weeks of book discussions. Their choice may not be picked the first time, books will stay on a rotation basis.
Some examples of these choices:
Boundless by Chaunte Lowe
Save Me a Seat by Sarah Weeks
Island of the Blue Dolphin by Scott O'Dell
The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman
The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart

My hope is that they read some things that maybe they don't like too much but get through it anyway. Or maybe read some things they thought they didn't like but turns out better than their initial interpretations. Better yet, maybe they are inspired to write their own novel to take it all a step farther.
Reading is a joy and should be a standard part of everyday life.
