What's included

Homework
1 hour per week. Learners should practice the cursive for at least ten minutes a day on average for at least four or five days per week in order to excel at cursive. Since this is a new skill, it is easy to forget correct formation so they should watch the video each day as they make the letters and words.
Assessment
This class will provide an informal assessment based on teacher feedback but if a more formal assessment is needed for a homeschooling portfolio, or similar, I am happy to provide that.

Class Experience

Did you know that learning cursive letters in a certain order makes them easier to learn? In this FLEX (video only) cursive writing class, students will learn American standard cursive writing including lower case letter and word formation. No prior knowledge is necessary, however learners should have adequate small motor coordination so the minimum learner age should not be much lower than the set recommendation. Learners in this class will watch weekly videos while pausing and writing the letters and words for the week. I will provide videos on Mondays but it is advisable that learners watch the video, possibly just partway to ensure the ability to excel before proceeding. Students will practice cursive in a methodical way, learning letters of similar formation at approximately the same time. Learners will be able to formulate words on the first lesson. We will begin with the letter “t” followed by “e” and “i.” In order to have interaction between students as well as with the teacher, we will ask each child to show their finished product each week. The teacher will provide needed suggestions for improvement. Cursive writing has been shown to improve focus as well as motor skills. Although we live in a digital age, handwriting is still essential for daily activities. Look for the next flex course in which learners will be introduced to upper case letters. Both classes are also offered as multi-day classes. Ask for a link if that is your preference.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Parents may want to be available to ensure their learner is forming the letter correctly, especially as we begin to form more difficult words.
Supply List
Cursive writing paper is highly suggested. Here is an example of paper that will work well. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51s6FgMoVEL._SX384_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg
A lined white board is also a possibility, however the line should not be spaced too widely.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
