Class Experience

In this one time drawing class, we will learn how to draw cats in a bowl of ramen noodle soup. Cats with ramen is funny, and I encourage students to illustrate the cats with fun expressions and positions. The ramen cats can be made swimming in soup, playfully eating, or being lazy and sleeping in their dish. In this class, we will use our imaginations!

The topics students will learn are sketching, line art, overlapping, expressions, and how to apply simple color. In the beginning of class, we will start with a step by step guide on how to draw the bowl for the soup, noodles, and we will make our first cats together. Students will then be given choices such as how many cats to make, which foods to include in their soups, and what expressions the cats will have. We will use pencils to sketch, then a marker (fine tip Sharpie is preferred) to make strong outlines. Finally, we will add some touches of color using watercolor paints.

My teaching style is relaxed. Students are encouraged to use their imagination and make a drawing that is fun for them. I will guide students along and give positive feedback and recommendations. I will provide technical information on how to use art materials. Learners will get plenty of time to interact with me and with others through discussion of the art process.

At the end of class, we will have a brief show and tell about the art we created. I will give a positive critique of artwork and lots of encouragement.

Some past experience drawing is helpful.

Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.

I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.

My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
