Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Hello!

In this class I plan to encourage the fun and excitement of reading. For the first portion of the class we will spend time looking at the book itself and identifying features such as the title, the author, the illustrator, etc. I then will read the book out loud to them. At different points of reading I may stop and point out certain features of the book. Then after the book is read at the end of the class each learner will have the opportunity to talk about what their favorite part of the book was and talk about books similar that could be read in the future.

The following books will be read and discussed each week as well as some vocabulary review from the two books.

Week 4- July 10th: The Adventures of Beekle The Unimaginary Friend by Dan Santat & Dream Big Little Pig by Kristi Yamaguchi

Week 5 - July 17th: Squirrel's Fun Day by Lisa Moser & Duck for President by Betsy Lewin

Week 6 - July 24th: Over in the Meadow by Olive Wadsworth & Skippy Jon Jones Class Action by Judy Schachner

Week 7 - July 31st: Mermaid Queen by Shana Corey & Olivia by Anne Schwartz

Week 8 (Final Week) - August 7th: Jack and the Beanstalk by Richard Walker & Uni the Unicorn a story about believing by Amy Rosenthal

There is no required experience for the learners needed for this class. I plan to be very engaging and get to know each of the students and better understand their level of reading and how much they enjoy reading. I plan for them to be able to be very interactive so that they are seeing the benefit of reading and hopefully want to read more following the class.
Learning Goals
Students I hope will learn the parts and details of a book. I also plan for them to learn what type of books they enjoy and what works for them when reading so they can become better readers moving into higher grade levels in school.
