Class Experience

Those who have already learned basics in Spanish challenge themselves by working toward complete sentences and back-and-forth dialogue, while still reviewing or filling in gaps through our weekly topics tackled through games and stories. I, the teacher, will largely use Spanish but will provide English explanations where needed or requested. I will also encourage learners to use as much Spanish as possible and complete sentences for maximum practice.

As this is an ongoing course, learners may join at anytime. The lessons stand on their own and do not build on another. Here is our schedule for upcoming weeks:

Schedule for SUMMER 2023:
Week of June 4 - Sharing names and ages, Book: "Tú no te llamas Juan" (by the instructor)
Week of June 11 - Telling the time and what it is time to do, Book: "Tengo mucho sueño" (by the instructor)
Week of June 18 - Describing with opposites, Book: "¿Cuál es?" (by the instructor)

Schedule for FALL 2023:
Week of August 13 - Identifying shapes, Book: "Me gusta mi forma" (by the instructor)
Week of August 20 - Talking about the days of the week, Book: "¿Qué día es hoy?" (by the instructor)
Week of August 27 - Discussing having and giving with animals, Book: "Tengo diez perros" (by the instructor)
Week of September 3 - Identifying objects around us, Books: "Busco un gato," "Es un bolígrafo" (by the instructor)

Our class time will include the following:
1. Practice the vocabulary and phrases for the day.
2. Read our book of the week together, taking parts.
3. Play a game to practice our target words and phrases of the day.
If we have extra time, we will practice with translations from the phrases and vocabulary we have been focusing on and/or small talk in Spanish.

Optional homework: After class, I provide class notes highlighting the main vocabulary, worksheets, and the book or story we read in class for learners to practice further on their own time, as well as links to videos of my reading of the story to practice during the week.
