Class Experience

Learn Python from the ground up. I'll help you setup your PC to get ready for Python. Then, each class will cover syntax of Python.
Topics we will cover include:
- Installing Python
_ Install Python on a Windows PC
- Using IDLE and the editor
  - Learn when to use IDLE and when to use the editor
- Variables
  - Variables are used for all sorts of things, from keeping score in a game to calculations to holding lists of item. As
in their name – the contents will VARY as the program runs.
- Strings, Lists, Tuples
  - What's the difference? When do I use them
- Decision making
  - Every day you make decisions about what to do next, based on the answers to questions you ask
yourself. For example, “Is it raining?”, “Have I done my homework?”, “Am I a horse?” Computers also
     make decisions by asking questions
- Loops
  - Computers are great at doing boring tasks without complaining. Programmers aren’t, but they are good at
getting computers to do repetitive work for them—by using loops.
- Functions
   - Programmers love shortcuts that make writing code easier. One of the most common shortcuts
is to give a name to a block of code that does an especially useful job.
-Create a quiz game
  - Make a quiz game about animals and learn how to modify it to be about any topic
-Create a Caterpillar game
   - Create a program like Snake.io

Bachelor's Degree from Pennsylvania State University
Hi, my name is Dan Hartman. I have many years of experience as an elementary and middle school technology teacher (Pk-8). I have a bachelor's degree from Penn State in Computer Science and over 25years of working in the computer science world. For years I have been bringing the joy of coding into PK-8 classrooms, with my passion for teaching technology and a skill for turning learning into an adventure, I inspire young minds to explore the digital world with creativity and curiosity.

I always try to make my teaching fun; students will see me wearing different hats and wigs to liven things up. I was a kid once, too and I can relate that it can be intimidating trying to warm up to a new teacher. In my classes, we will joke a bit and have a good time. But guess what, you will learn how to code.

Last but not least, I realize that not all students pick up everything as quickly, so I try not to leave anyone hanging. I will often extend class sessions for one or a couple students. We can even zoom in at another time. My approach is that no student should leave without understanding the material.

I look forward to seeing you in my class!
