(Read bottom for meet and greet puppy info). My BSA is in Animal Science, but I’ve spent most of my time with dogs. I’ve done it all, and I want to help you get started out right. You’ll have many quality years with your new furry family member. As you know, puppies are baby dogs. They are cute and fun and can be a joy to have around. However, they require a lot of care and attention, much like human babies. I would love to teach you all about puppies and how to care for them. I’ve had my hand in just about every aspect of the canine world, (ie. rescue, transport, training, foster, kennel, vet. tech., certified groomer, and of course owned several canines of my own). There are many things to consider when adopting a new pet. In this course we will discuss these considerations, as well as the responsibilities that come with raising a new puppy. It's important to remember that while we love our new member of the family, we must also meet his other needs. We will learn about important things such as health and exercise, potty training, toys, feeding, grooming, behaviors, parasites, and even a few tricks to training your puppy. There's a lot to having a puppy and I want you to leave class feeling like a puppy pro! This class is meant to inform young people who are considering getting a puppy (or may already have) of the work that comes with a new puppy, as well as point out the joy they can bring when well cared for properly. Having a pet can be a wonderful thing if started out right. At the end of class we will play a fun game to recall what we've learned. No extra device is needed for this class. (If your student has his/her own device, they are welcome to use it to participate individually in the game. If they do not have their own device to play independently that is also absolutely fine. They can still participate via teacher access). I only mention it because I usually have at least one student in the class ask. After class students will also receive a certificate and puppy care schedule sheet. Meet & greet Note: I will always try to be in the classroom between 5-10min early (depending on class size) for an opportunity to talk to students, a pet meet and greet, as well as address any particular concerns. I love to meet pets and hear the students' favorite stories about his/her pets. I will also try to be available for a short time after class if it doesn't run over by much. I want everyone leaving feeling confident about their puppy care ability. However, if after class you realize you forgot one or have another question, please feel free to message me.
Learning Goals
Students will become more knowledgable about the responsibilities and joys of having a new puppy and be ready to take on this new family member.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Tonya. My students call me Teacher Tonya. As an Outschool teacher, I encourage my students to take an active part in the learning process. I provided many opportunities for the student to be engaged in class. This gives students an opportunity to think independently and come up with new thoughts and ideas, as well as the chance to speak out. I love getting to witness those "ah-ha" moments. It's important that students leave class with new knowledge and a sense of confidence in using that knowledge. While I take time during and at the end of class for questions, I also make every effort to be available for requested additional time, or to simply answer questions and emails.
I currently have my BSA in Animal Science, and ALMOST a Masters Degree in Education (Middle School Science). Most of my teaching experience comes from homeschooling, tutoring, and being an online educator. I've homeschooled my own children from 1st-9th grades. I also tutor other students in English, mostly ranging from 1st-8th grades. I've been an ESL teacher for 2 years and have both TESOL and TEFL certifications. I have spent a brief amount of time in brick & mortar classes. There was also a time (pre-corona virus) that I was our local home school co-op coordinator.
When I'm not teaching, tutoring, or homeschooling, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially outdoors. We do things such as swim, bike ride, fish, ride 4-wheelers, play ball, run, kayak, and more.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. This includes anything from class size, age, learning ability, tutoring, and more. I am usually quick to respond and glad to help. I hope to see you in my classroom soon. Come, join me. And let's have fun learning together.
