Class Experience

Join me as we learn and practice Public Speaking skills. This course takes Show and Tell to the next level. As students become more confident in public speaking, we can begin to introduce specific skills that will help them become more articulate speakers. Students will develop effective communication and confidence in this 5 week course. I will start each class with an enthusiastic greeting followed by a brief review of the skill learned in the previous class. Then, each student will take turns speaking using the skill/topic for the week. Next, I will introduce and demonstrate the next skill (or set of skills).

Weekly skills are as follows:
Week 1 - Introduction - Students can Show and Tell anything they choose. The new skill introduced is "Poise and Confidence."
Week 2 - Students will Show and Tell demonstrating poise and confidence. The new skill introduced is "Eye Contact and Smile."
Week 3 - Students will Show and Tell demonstrating eye contact and smiling. The new skill introduced is "Volume and Articulation."
Week 4 - Students will Show and Tell demonstrating volume and articulation. The new skill introduced is "Expression and Tempo."
Week 5 - Students will Show and Tell demonstrating expression and tempo.

Learning Goals

In addition to gaining confidence, students will learn poise, eye contact, proper volume and articulation, expression and tempo. Students will also develop active listening skills.

I have been teaching for over 15 years in various areas of education. I believe learning should be fun. I enjoy teaching reading, writing, and the English language. I also enjoy teaching classes that keep us moving - my kids are very active! My class offerings will include phonics/reading, writing, the English language (ESL, ELL) history and geography, art, and science. My one-on-one class offerings will include tutoring options in reading, writing, math, research projects, and the English language.

I have a Master's degree from the University of Rochester and a teaching license from the state of New York. I spent several years teaching high school level history courses to students ages 15-18, tutoring various subjects to students of all ages, and coaching. I have been teaching ESL online for over 2 years and enjoy the on-line format. I also currently homeschool our two children.

I enjoy spending time with family and seeing the excitement of discovery on my kids' faces when they learn something new. We enjoy reading, hiking, and exploring new adventures together. I hope you will join me on the next fun adventure!
