2-4 hours per week. Students will complete a journal throughout the course that will allow them to better understand the sources of any anxiety surrounding their Public Speaking experiences. Once sources of apprehension are identified, students will learn basic structure of a preparation outline as well as speech structure. By the end of the course students will have completed an outline, learned how to select effective visual aids, and have delivered a speech.Letter Grade

Students will learn how to manage speaking anxiety, connect with your audience, and create clear outlines for presentations. We’ll also cover how to use visual aids effectively and share tips for delivering engaging and memorable talks. With hands-on activities and personalized feedback, this course is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to improve their public speaking skills. over 3 WeeksLesson 1:
Public Speaking Anxiety
Students will complete a Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety (PRPSA) to help identify the source(s) of any Public Speaking apprehension they may face. Lecture videos will focus on best practices to combat Public Speaking anxiety. Students will complete a journal activity that will reflect on their own experience and demonstrate an understanding of tools they can use to develop confidence.

Lesson 2:
Audience
Students will learn about the vital role of the audience. Lecture will focus on the importance of knowing your audience as well as being a mindful listener. Students will complete a comprehension quiz to demonstrate their understanding of lecture materials.
Lesson 3:
Brainstorming
Students will learn about brainstorming techniques and practice utilizing these skills in a low stakes assignment to help determine a topic for their speech to be delivered in Week 3.
Lesson 4:
Outlining Your Speech
Students will becoming familiar with the components of a Preparation Outline. Students will create an outline of their own based on their brainstorming activity. This assignment will allow students to practice their writing and speech development skills.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Students will watch lecture videos created by the instructor. This content will not cover any sensitive content but will address sources of Public Speaking Anxiety- this could stem from their life experiences, stresses of the speech creation and delivery process, etc.

As a 6th year Professor, I have taught countless students to enhance their Public Speaking in the college setting. Throughout my career in Higher Ed. I have taught courses specifically to dual enrollment students and early college learners. I have also covered this subject during my career at a private high school, working specifically with Freshmen and Sophomores.
