What's included

5 live meetings
5 in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Students may need to finish their projects outside of class. For a simple drawing, students may complete it in class. If desired, students will be able to add detail and spend hours outside of class on their art!

Class Experience

Anyone can draw in Procreate! Whether your child considers themselves artistically gifted or not (that's me!), anyone can make beautiful drawings in Procreate. In this summer bootcamp, students will learn how to use procreate and will use their knowledge and skills to create five projects over the course of the week. Students will have plenty of structure and guidance in their drawings, but endless opportunities to showcase their own creativity!

Day 1: How to use procreate and abstract art
-Students will learn how to use different brushes and colors, alpha lock, drawing guides, symmetry tools, and layers in this class.
-Using the symmetry tool, students will practice making perfect shapes to create a mandala or other abstract art. These make great coloring pages if you'd like to print after class!

Day 2: Portrait of a person
-Students will make faceless silhouette portraits using any photo of their choice. They can choose to do a self-portrait, a family picture, or a picture of someone famous!

Day 3: Animal Painting (shown in class image above)
-Students will continue to practice color matching and will create a portrait of their pet or other animal. Suggested photos can be provided if students don't have/don't want to draw a pet. In this class, we will increase realism in our art by using painting techniques, blurring, and texture.

Day 4: Colorful Houses
-Inspired by the row houses of Amsterdam and San Francisco, students will design a street of houses using whimsical colors and fun shapes. As time allows, students will be able to add small details, like flower beds, bikes, street signs, etc.

Day 5: Landscapes
-In this class, students will create a drawing of an enclosed landscape in a frame. As time allows, students will learn to use Gaussian blur, motion blur, opacity adjustments, and more.

Students will use photos in Days 2-3 to create their portraits, using tracing as desired. Students who feel uncomfortable with free-hand drawing may incorporate tracing photos to create outlines in days 4-5. Students will be supported all along the way and may complete the projects at their own pace. All artistic abilities are welcome!

Please note that students MUST have an iPad to use that supports Procreate, a $10 app. Students must also have a stylus that is compatible with Procreate, but it does not have to be an Apple Pencil. Plenty of very affordable pens are available on Amazon, but please ensure that your stylus is compatible prior to class.

*Please note that teens should sign up for the teen version of this class instead. Students under the age of eight are not permitted. Thank you for understanding!

🦎ABOUT ME🦑
Hi! I'm Allie. I'm a science teacher turned conservationist from Arkansas and I LOVE animals, zoology, and biology. I teach at Outschool because, well, my husband was tired of listening to me talk about animals all day (kidding) and I know there are so many curious, animal-loving kiddos out there who would like to talk about animals!

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Natural Science with a minor in Sustainability Studies from the University of Florida. When I decided to become a teacher, I went to North Carolina State University to get my Master's in teaching science. When I left formal teaching in 2023, I joined the education program of a major conservation nonprofit organization and have enjoyed teaching even more students on Outschool. My teaching style is challenging, affirming, and energetic!

Before I became a teacher, I worked in lots of cool places like aquariums, science museums, and wildlife sanctuaries! I have taken care of so many different animals, like sloths, tropical butterflies, saltwater coral, sea anemones, poisonous frogs, capuchin monkeys, and more! Now that I'm a teacher, I spend my free time taking care of my own wild animals--my dogs Phoebe and Lola, my cat Ricky, my turtles Gibby and Chuck, my fish Wally, Cathy, and Orangey (yes, he is orange), and my golden inca snail Rupert. In case you can't tell, I kind of like animals.

In my spare time, I love to cook, create stained glass, listen to podcasts, read, and volunteer at my local animal shelter.

I'm a very enthusiastic teacher and truly love what I teach. I don't list a class here if I'm not seriously excited to teach it. I hope you'll join me and learn some science!

🌟CLASS POLICIES
• If only one student is enrolled in a class, classes will not be cancelled unless the parent requests. Parents may choose to withdraw (with refund), transfer, or hold the class. A few classes require multiple students and are noted (show and tell classes, escape rooms, and multi-day classes)
• Students may be transferred into another class section if I am notified at least 48 hours before class begins. If there is no other section that works for your schedule, I can use your enrollment towards another class of your choice.
• Students who do not attend class will not be refunded, but may instead watch the class recording. If the missing student was the only one enrolled or if no other students attended, there will not be a class recording.

💰 TUITION ASSISTANCE
• All students deserve access to high quality education and the ability to pursue their interests. If your circumstances make that difficult, please contact me. A limited number of discounted spots may be available for your students.

📆CLASSES
*Not all classes are offered at a given time. If you see something here that interests you, let me know and I may be able to add a section!
• One time classes - I have a variety of one-time animal classes, the most popular of which are in my series "The Weirdest Animals on Earth", which includes individual classes on mammals, ocean animals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. I also teach a series of Wildlife Tour classes of major biodiversity hotspots like the Great Barrier Reef or the island of Madagascar. My newest series is called "Taxonomy Tales" and studies the animal kingdom, one group at a time.
• Multi-Day courses - I regularly rotate my multi-day courses so check out my listings below for more current options! I often offer camps during school vacations and sometimes have seasonal classes. This summer, I will be hosting a summer camp called "Design Your Dream Zoo" and a class on beginner iPad illustration using Procreate!
• Flex classes - These classes are an awesome opportunity for some more academic studies. I teach 4-10 week courses for both teens and preteens on topics like general Zoology, Mammalogy, Deep Sea Creatures, Coral Reef Ecology, and more to come!
• Ongoing classes - my only current ongoing class is "Wildlife Coloring Club". In this club, students are given a coloring page every week (made my me) focusing on a specific animal or group of animals. During the class, we will color and label our art while learning about the animal's lifestyle, behaviors, and conservation.

• If you are interested in a new idea for a class feel free to contact me with your idea! I am constantly dreaming about new classes and would love to hear what you or your learner would like to hear!

Thank you for being here and helping me instill in your child an interest for the natural world. I see myself in my students and it is so rewarding for me to see students grow in their knowledge and passion for animals.

See you in class and as always, stay wild!

Ms. Allie
