Hello students and parents! In this one-time lesson, we will practice sketching digitally by tracing a photo with the Procreate app for iPad. First we'll each take a "selfie" using the Procreate application to take a photo, then we will each follow the contours of our own selfie with an Apple Pencil or other compatible stylus. Students will practice drawing-by-tracing and be introduced to the following digital drawing methods and techniques: selecting specific areas using the selection tool, a drag-and-drop method of coloring, adjusting the opacity, and using layers to create an illusion of depth. They will also be introduced to the color wheel and color palettes to finish their selfie drawing after the lesson. Each student will need to bring their own iPad with the Procreate application downloaded and installed, as well as an Apple Pencil (or other compatible stylus). **Students may choose to bring a photo of someone else, such as a parent or sibling, if they prefer!** * * * I would love to start a “Gallery” for this class. Students will learn to use several brushes (tools) in Procreate, including Studio Pen, HB Pencil, and Round Brush.

The drawing app Procreate is used in this class. It can be purchased and downloaded from the Apple App Store.

- iPad - Procreate Drawing app ($12.99 in the App Store) - Apple Pencil (best) or another stylus ** Be certain to charge both the iPad and the stylus prior to our meeting! ** ** Make sure that the Apple Pencil (or other stylus) is paired to the iPad. **

Except for 2D Animation Club, if a learner is confident in another animation application they may choose to join with it. However, I will not be troubleshooting other apps during these lessons.
