Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
I provide one-on-one tutoring to help learners become better readers and writers; increase their comprehension skills; and strengthen their grammar skills. We will focus on phonics/phonemic awareness to increase your learner's reading fluency. We will also work on reading passages that are tailored to your learner's needs and interests, and set-up corresponding follow-up activities to strengthen their comprehension, and provide opportunities to incorporate writing in a variety of fun, relevant, and relatable ways to build on their grammar skills and enable them to extend their writing capacity.

Some of the passages that the learners will be reading will be stories which include figurative language, such as idioms, similes, alliterations, hyperboles, and metaphors. Some of the reading passages will also include plays that I have created. The reading passages we will use will be familiar topics to engage and help facilitate real-world connections so that they are better able to communicate their ideas, even abstract ideas orally and in writing. Familiar topics/topics of relevance may include books, sports, good citizenship/responsibilities, pets, social studies, travel, science, nature, hobbies, games, talents, and other topics of interest. These topics will be the foundation for the reading/vocabulary/writing lessons, and sometimes, with music infused, to further engage and promote familiarity with the topic of the lessons. Additionally, we will also be integrating various types of word play into each lesson, such as palindromes (words, phrases, and even sentences and numbers that read the same backwards as forwards), and multi-meaning words to further enhance the learner's oral and writing abilities. The class is learner centered, and my style is relaxed. I strongly encourage learner participation because the knowledge is best retained by the learner when they provide feedback, both orally and in writing. The writing will be done interactively. However, a journal is highly recommended if the learner wants to keep a record of their writings, but it is not required. The learners will interact via discussion, on the slides, and chat feature on zoom.
