Assessment
I will only offer 'formal' assessments if we feel the need to administer one. I put 'formal' in quotes because I will not offer standardized assessments, but I can offer assessments that are systematic and designed to assess specific areas of weakness related to fluency, decoding, spelling, and comprehension. However, with that said, every activity I do with a student is in essence, an assessment. I am constantly monitoring progress and using the performance of a learner to determine my next activity.Class Experience

PLEASE DIRECT MESSAGE ME TO COORDINATE AVAILABILITY IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN WORKING WITH ME AND I WILL SEND YOU A PRIVATE LINK TO GET OUR SESSIONS STARTED. Do you have a learner frustrated by the process of decoding phonics concepts, spelling, or comprehension? I am more than happy to complete a diagnostic reading assessment to determine your learner's strengths and weaknesses to build confidence. If you are aware of any specific concepts or skills that you'd like focused on then I'm happy to create language and literacy lessons for individualized instruction. I have been a diagnostic reading and language practitioner for nearly two decades and have taught hundreds of students who find the reading and writing process to be a struggle. I was trained in both a clinical and classroom setting in Orton-Gillingham methods. I am well aware of the body of research that surrounds the 'Science of Reading' and I adhere to only structured, phonics-based teaching methods. Upon our first meeting, I will aspire to gather as much information as I can to better inform my instruction. Communication before our meeting by providing me with as much information as you are willing to share on your learner's strengths and weaknesses will improve the quality of instruction right from the start. Once I have a grasp of where it is best to begin with your learner I will work on a day-by-day, week-by-week basis to build skills, strategies, and self-awareness to build confidence and self-esteem. Concepts/Skills/Strategies We Can Focus On: 1. phonics-based skills (ex: vowel teams, learning how to syllabicate, etc.) 2. spelling 3. fluency 4. comprehension strategies 5. writing 6. vocabulary 7. building background knowledge I work hard to make the best online teaching tools I can and will gladly share worksheets, flashcards, and any other materials I have to better help support you in your home. This class is best for students with ADHD, executive functioning challenges, dyslexia, hyperlexia, English language learners, or for learners who need help with homework or other academic assignments. Do not hesitate to reach out with questions before enrolling and we can talk about whether we think I could help. Best wishes! Maureen
