Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner - Advanced Level
Q: What will be taught? A: I will teach phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, decoding strategies, fluency, and comprehension. Q: What topics will you cover? A: Different skills and strategies to improve reading skills. Topics are dependent upon assessment of student's current ability level. This could range from learning letters and letter sounds for early readers to discussing comprehension questions for more advanced learners. Q: How is your class structured? A: At the beginning of class we will discover the learner's reading level, then select a book based on the skill level of the reader. The books will be selected from Reading A-Z and when possible will be selected with the student's interests in mind. Students will not need their own account as I will share my screen to project the book. Books are age appropriate and leveled readers so I can make sure to read books in the instructional range (not too easy or too difficult). We will read the book together, stopping when the reader needs help with decoding a word. I will teach decoding strategies as we read. At the end, we may complete worksheets or play games together on whiteboard to improve phonics skills, phonological awareness, or reading comprehension. I may also incorporate games to teach reading and writing skills, such as manipulating CVC words on whiteboard, which one doesn't belong letter flashcards, rhyming games, clapping syllables, etc. Q: How will you teach? A: I will project books and worksheets from Reading A-Z and I will also utilize the whiteboard function. I may also hold up flashcards and other tools on my camera. Q: What's your teaching style? A: I try to make learning engaging and fun. Q: How much will learners get to interact with you? A: The learner will be primarily reading the book and I will only assist as required. I will stop to provide explanations and tricks to improve reading skills. We may also play games or complete worksheets together using the screen share or whiteboard tools. I may also discuss reading comprehension questions with students throughout or at the the end of the story.
