Assessment
Diagnostic assessments will be used to determine reading needs. Possible assessments included PAST (phonemic awareness), CORE Phonics (decoding), DSI (encoding) and fluency.Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
In this one-day tutoring session students will work one-on-one with a certified reading specialist. Classes will meet for 30 minutes. Please email to set up a time. This class can be ongoing. Each course will be individualized based on student need. Diagnostic assessments will be used in the first session to gain further knowledge of reading needs. Areas that may be covered include phonological awareness, phonics, sight words, fluency, vocabulary and/or comprehension. I will use a structured literacy approach in each session through the use of decodable text and online materials from UFLI (The University of Florida Literacy Institute). I believe all students need a cheerleader in their corner when building confidence in reading.
Learning Goals
Students will know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
Students will read with accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.

Students will any type of learning need are welcome in my tutoring class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I love to read and am passionate about teaching reading, especially to struggling readers. I have spent the last 18 years working as a reading specialist with students in grades 3-5. Throughout my career, I have taught students with diverse reading needs. I use current best practices in my teaching, such as structured literacy, to help my students become confident readers.
