Beginner - Advanced Level
This class is designed to be a place of support and individualized instruction for students who want to learn skills and techniques for painting in acrylic. In this one-on-one private lesson, we can explore a variety of painting subjects based on the interests of the student such as landscape, floral, still life, animals, figurative, or abstract. Each lesson stands on its own and students may enroll for as many sessions as they wish. CLASS STRUCTURE: -10 minutes for check in and slides (art vocabulary, art technique, photo reference) -45 minutes for sketching and painting -5 minutes to share SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES: -Sketching with shapes -Underpainting -Creating contrast and value -Blending and Mixing Colors -Perspective -Texture MATERIALS: -Acrylic paint (red, orange, yellow, green, blue (light and dark), violet, raw umber, white, black) -Variety of flat and round brushes, small to medium -Canvas or Watercolor Paper (9 x 12 or 11 x 14/11 x 15) -Water cup -Paper Towels SAMPLE LESSONS: 1) Landscapes: Mountains and Beaches 2) Sunsets 3) Colorful Birds- Toucans, Hummingbirds, Parrots 4) Florals- Roses and Sundflowers 5) Animals: Tiger, Blue Whale, Monkey, Bear, Koala, Panda, Sloth, Giraffe As the instructor, I will paint with the learner and provide instructions both before and while we paint. Students may follow along with me, but I also allow room for students to make creative choices in color, shape, etc. I will check in with learner 1-2 times per session and provide gentle feedback if requested. Sharing is encouraged but not required. Painting is a fun and relaxing medium to work with and I strive to create a learning environment that is supportive and encouraging.
Learning Goals
The student will create a painting using acrylic paint.
The student will learn at least one painting technique, such as: mixing colors, tints and shades, form.

Paint: Acrylic (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white, brown, black) Painting surface: watercolor paper or canvas Paint brushes (small to medium round and flat brushes) Cup of water Paper towels Pencil Paint palette (tray or paper plate) Optional: Black permanent marker to draw with when using watercolor
