These tutoring sessions will be tailored to the child's specific needs. As new material is presented, I will use the "I do, We do, You do" teaching model. The lesson will be multi-sensory, incorporating visual, auditory and kinesthetic experiences simultaneously, to ensure the best learning outcome. In each session, I will observe any confusion or uncertainties the child is having, make note of them, and be sure to address these in subsequent lessons. Possible Reading and Spelling Lesson Topics may include: phonemic awareness: rhyming, onset rime, segmenting, blending, adding, deleting and substituting short and long vowels discrimination between vowel sounds blends digraphs -ng and -nk word families soft c and g Floss Rule short vowel protectors -ck, -tch and -dge syllable patterns: Closed, Open, Magic E, Bossy R, Vowel Teams and Consonant L-E syllable division rules spelling rules: Doubling Rule, E Drop Rule, Y Change Rule word origins prefixes suffixes base words vs. root words editing strategies fluency strategies (pace, accuracy, chunking, paying attention to punctuation) Examples of Comprehension Activities: Learning and practicing specific strategies (pre-reading, predicting, asking questions, visualizing, making connections) Using the SCOOP method for story re-telling Examples of Possible Writing Topics: Sentence Structure Sentence Combining Writing robust sentences Identifying and Correcting Fragments Identifying and Correcting Run-Ons Transitional Phrases Topic Sentences and Paragraphs Closing Sentences and Paragraphs Supporting Details Stating Evidence Hamburger Paragraphs Brainstorming and Organizing Narrative Writing Opinion Writing Understanding different genres Using imagery Grammar activities to enhance writing Annotating Self-Editing Math Topics may include: patterns, counting, subitizing, more than and less than, mental math, place value, addition strategies, skip counting, multiplication practice, money, time, subtraction, division, graphing, measurement, geometry, fractions, mixed numbers, decimals, story problems, using an abacus, and using base ten picture cards and other manipulatives. Sessions may end with a short game to reinforce what was learned.

I am a licensed teacher in the State of Indiana with over 25 years experience teaching, tutoring and coaching. I have been trained in the Orton-Gillingham method by The Dyslexia Institute of Indiana and in Kindergarten OG by the M.A. Rooney Foundation. I have completed Advanced Orton-Gillingham Training and Written Expression Training through the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana. I have completed courses on Dyslexia and structured literacy through the Montessori Foundation. I have also taken a Conscious Discipline training. I am a professional member of the International Dyslexia Association. I have recently completed LETRS training through Voyager Sopris Learning and earned Certificates of Mastery in all 8 units. In 2018-2020 I worked in a private Montessori school serving students who have Individual Service Plans.
