Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Students will be taught important skills that help them not only in their English class, covering both reading and writing skills, but topics and ideas that will undoubtedly help their communication and writing skills in general, helping them in other core classes that incorporate free response, in essays used for both college applications, and/or also on other major tests such as the SAT and ACT.

This class will be structured as a private and/or small group tutoring class to students who I have taught before wanting more individualized support as well as new students who want to work more independently. Although the class is on-going, students can schedule just one session and then unenroll, or continue week by week as they see fit in their learning needs.

Some weekly structures that I will offer when students schedule:

Week 1: Essay Writing (Grammar, Punctuation, and Writing Analysis) [Week of 1/25/21]

Week 2: Essay Writing Continued (Format, Structure, Areas of Weakness, Strength, and Growth) [Week of 2/1/21]

Week 3: Literature Analysis (Close Reading, Text Interpretation, and Responding to Prompts) [Week of 2/8/21]

Week 4: Essay Advice, Personal Statements, and Application Tips (Bringing the Essay to Life) [Week of 2/15/21]

Continued... (and modified based on individual student learning requests / needs).

Hello, everyone! My name is Mr. W, and I have been a teacher for nine years and hold a Master's Degree. I teach primarily English, literature, and writing courses, but I also offer college advising and test prep workshops along with yoga, which is by hobby outside of the classroom. I have taught all over the world aside from the USA, my favorite places being Portugal, China, and lastly, Vietnam, which is where I am currently living and working as a teacher and university guidance counselor.

I think education is vital to understanding the world around us. I still consider myself to be a student of the world, every day aiming to learn something new and making sense of what's around us in fresh ways. I embrace that every student learns differently, and my philosophy of education is to individualize learning for each of my students while making it a fun, remarkable experience.

A fun fact about me is when I am not teaching, I am either writing my own short stories and poems or traveling the world, having just visited my 49th country! I hope to one day visit them all. :) I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
