Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 8
This class is a one-time private tutoring session for students in 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grade math through pre-algebra. The class time will be spent tutoring in the area of concern, and parents may communicate that are to me prior to class if they wish. Multiple sessions can be booked if more time is needed to address the concern. My classroom is relaxed and low-key, yet focused intently on accomplishing the goal. I can tutor with the goal of understanding concepts, or I can offer homework help on particular assignments.

I want students to enjoy the class; even more than that, I want them to find success in their studies, thereby building their confidence and imparting a love and joy for learning. I will work patiently with your student to ascertain the difficulty they are having and to provide strategies and solutions so that the student learns and understands the material. Interaction will be through direct instruction, examples, modeling of the concept, and props when appropriate for the lesson.

It is useful to know in advance what areas of concern need to be addressed. Please communicate the subject area and topic in advance of class, as this allows me to adequately prepare for your child's class.

I do ask that all students come prepared with, at minimum, paper and pencil, and preferably with a markerboard and marker if possible. If there is a particular assignment they need to work on, the student should be prepared to share their screen or in some other way allow me to see the problems they need help with.
Learning Goals
The learning goals for this class will be tailored to the individual student being taught. Please communicate the general math topic in advance of class, as this allows me to adequately prepare for your child's class (for example, adding and subtracting fractions, converting fractions to decimals, etc.).

Parental Guidance
All content is carefully screened to be age-appropriate and content-appropriate.
Supply List
Students should come to class with pencil and paper. I prefer that students also have a small markerboard and dry erase marker (in a dark color such as blue or red that can be easily seen). Additionally, if the student needs help with particular content or a particular assignment, I will need to see the lesson(s) they are working on.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a teaching minor in social studies, as well as a master's degree. I have taught students from preschool through high school for over 20 years in public, private, home, and online settings. Additionally, I co-founded and served as an administrator for a private academy for seven years, overseeing the curriculum development and overall content of the programs we used. During this period, I created much of the content, and I was able to tailor the program to the needs of the students and the families we served. I also taught students at the academy in all subjects and grades (preschool through high school).
