This course listing is for private Latin lessons. I will meet students where they are academically in their understanding of Latin, and we will work together to build their understanding of grammar, vocabulary, and syntax of the Latin language. I can provide support to students who may be struggling in an existing Latin class, or I can work with parents/students to create a Latin class from scratch. We can even customize the amount of time we work together each week - 45 minutes weekly is not set in stone! For those wishing to create a customized Latin course, here is a list of the textbooks I currently work with and can teach from: 1) Hans Orberg's Lingua Latina series (Familia Romana, Colloquia Personarum, and Roma Aeterna) 2) Cambridge Latin Course - Stages 1, 2, 3 3) Wheelock's Latin 4) Oxford Latin Reader 5) Jenney's Latin 6) Learn to Read Latin by Andrew Keller and Stephanie Russell 7) Latina Mythica (a fun supplemental text for intermediate students) I have taught extensively with the Lingua Latina series and Cambridge Latin Course texts; in my formal Outschool Latin classes, I work from the Lingua Latina series.

Parental Guidance
Many of the Latin curricula I've listed have violent topics of gladiator combat, Roman military discussions, the disaster of Mount Vesuvius' eruption. Some texts - notably Lingua Latina - use action verbs such as "hit' to illustrate and teach the relationship between subject, verb, and direct object. In my classes we always discuss how that's NOT a way to solve problems, and we brainstorm what other ways kids should get out their negative energy/emotions.
Supply List
A Latin textbook of some sort - let's discuss the options and decide what's the best fit for YOU!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello! I’m Larissa Laver and I’ve been teaching since 2008. I’ve worked with young children through young adults over the years: I have taught Pre-K through collegiate level courses and literally every grade in between at some point in my career. I mainly have taught Latin language from elementary through advanced levels, and occasionally teach Ancient Greek as well. I also teach Ancient Greek and Roman History courses, Classical Mythology, and the Homeric Epics. I have traveled extensively in Greece and Italy, and what I learned on those adventures often finds its way into my lessons.
I consider myself a lifelong learner and am always digging deeper to discover more about the world we live in, its history, peoples, languages, religions, cuisines, and more! I also love when my students challenge me with their amazing questions and observations. I spend much time reading and researching in the hopes of being a better citizen of the world and educator.
When I'm not engaged in academic pursuits, I spend my time with my amazing husband. Together we love to travel, play tennis, and hang out with our pet chickens! When I'm on my own, I love kickboxing, yoga (sometimes outside with the chickens!), and gardening (also with the chickens).
