Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 6
Welcome to my classroom! Have you heard recently the line "I Hate Reading!"? Do you have a beginning reader who is tired of the BOB books? Come join me for a private reading session including books for your individual child's interests... dogs, cats, horses, holidays, superheroes, dinosaurs, princesses, mythological creatures... whatever it is I work to find books that work with the student's interests and reading level to keep them feeling successful, peaceful and happy with reading.

These sessions are 45-minute private one-on-one guided reading tutoring sessions where we read stories and short books, play quiz games, answer discussion questions, and work on grammar skills. Please reach out to me with a day/time that works for you! I tutor using a variety of visuals and online books while keeping children engaged and excited to participate throughout our lessons. I also use a unique, one-of-a-kind reading strategy so students can get immediate positive feedback motivating them to keep reading.

I complete a reading assessment in our first class together so we can work on your learner's level. Parents are given notes from this assessment, as well as class notes from every class. I have seen my students succeed in moving up guided reading levels quickly with the strategies that I use. I have also found that students who take 2-3 classes a week excel in their levels at a faster pace.

I provide all reading material and focus on phonics sounds using pictures, matching exercises, and short phrases/sentences. We work on all vowel sounds and I target reading errors individually. We use interesting and exciting books that your student will love. I also use interactive activities, puzzles, and short comprehension questions to keep kids engaged in the lesson. I love to have fun teaching children to love reading with me! Students leave my class feeling successful and happy to keep reading. My six years of teaching as a librarian at a private school have given me a unique ability to know what helps motivate kids to learn and feel confident.
