Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
I am passionate about private lessons because I know first-hand how effective they can be. When I was in 6th grade, my teacher inspired me to be the best musician I could be. I loved music so much that I decided to become a flute teacher myself! I have taught flutists who were just learning how to put the flute together and make their first sounds, and I have taught high-schoolers who have prepared pieces for college auditions. I would love to help you no matter where you are at in your musical journey. My teaching style is student-centered. I would describe myself as creative, friendly, and patient.

Specific topics that we will cover include:

Setting up - putting the flute together, hand position, body posture
Tone - how to shape your lips and use your air to make a beautiful sound
Technique - learning proper fingerings, playing scales, etc.
Articulation - using our tongue to start the sound
Vibrato - making waves in our sound by using our air, similar to a singer
Sight-reading - the ability to play the music as you read it for the first time
Rhythm - we will count, clap, and break down the difficult rhythms
Solos - songs that are prepared for a performance
Performance anxiety - how to cope with this common experience

Please reach out to me if you have any questions regarding private lessons.
