4 live meetings
3 in-class hoursHomework
4+ hours per week. It is recommended that the student practice 45 minutes to an hour daily.Class Experience
In this 4 week course, I will evaluate the students playing and make suggestions on how the student can take her playing to the next level. Every lesson will involve work on tone, technique such as scales and arpeggios, theory, and ear-training. The following is an outline of our weeks, though much will be dependent on the individual student: Week one: assessing what material the student has already covered; suggesting tone, and technique exercises for improvement; and suggesting books and etudes to purchase. Week two: following up on the fundamentals discussed in week one while introducing theory and ear-training. Week three: more work on the issues that the student feels are needed most Week four: continuing work on the fundamentals of flute playing and making a plan for continued success.
Learning Goals
The student will learn the proper embouchure and hand position for making a resonant sound on the flute. We will work on tuning and playing in tune in the higher register. We will work on range as well. The student will learn major scales and possibly minor scales as well as arpeggios. The student will be taught how to tackle tricky passages on the flute and how to best structure her practice time to aid in her progress.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I’m Mrs. Germann and my love for flute playing and teaching runs deep! With over 25 years of experience, I am devoted to teaching flute to students of all ages and all ability levels. My degrees in music (BA in music education and MM in performance) have provided me with many teaching opportunities. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching elementary band in the California public schools, teaching flute and music appreciation at community colleges in Florida, directing a middle school honors flute ensemble, and, of course, teaching private flute lessons!
Currently, I teach in Ohio at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, at my studio “GIFT” in Kettering, and with the New Horizons Program through the University of Dayton. Whether it’s adult beginners in the New Horizons Program, the very young child in a KinderFlute class, or middle/high school students……there is nothing more rewarding than being able to share the joy of learning a musical instrument with someone new. I encourage you to find your voice, tell your story, share your gift!
