Creativity, Determination & Perseverance! The objective of these private drum lessons is to enable the student to gain a greater set of technical and musical skills on the drum set, and to help the student develop a greater understanding of the role of the drum set in modern contemporary music. This is achieved through the repetitive practices of technique and coordination, as well as developing critical listening skills demanded of drummers. The lessons will meet the student at their skill level and assess ways in which they can grow as a drummer. Students with a background in drumming, or those that excel quickly through the lessons and additional practice, will have the opportunity to select a songs to learn as part of the flex lessons. REQUIRED MUSIC GEAR: these lessons are designed for drum sets that include at least the following items: bass drum, snare, tom & cymbal. Please message Mr. Taylor to inquire about other drumming setups. HOMEWORK: Each week students will have new rhythms and exercises assigned. Students will be asked to record a video of themselves playing the material and submit it each week. Class videos will be posted each week along with a transcription of the rhythm/patterns. I will be reviewing students work as it is submitted and will send students tips and encouragement via classroom messages. You can also post or send questions throughout the week and I'll answer as quickly as possible. For added depth & interaction, students will be asked to do one or more of the following as part of each lesson: - partake in a "musical scavenger hunt" to find a song that features elements of what they have just learned. - perform the material to a group of peers or family members. - demonstrate mastery of the material by teaching the content to a peer or family member.
Learning Goals
Areas covered include playing drum beats and building on them, rudimental practice, strengthening time playing and developing oneβs musical vocabulary.
