This class is for artists who love to draw people and want to learn realistic drawing techniques and skills related to that. In this weekly drawing class, we will create a drawing of the human figure within a unique setting, or a portrait expressing an emotion. This class might appeal to artists love comics, graphic novels, animae, or fashion. This is a one-on-one private tutoring session so students may sign up for as many sessions as they would like. CLASS STRUCTURE: - 5 minutes for check-in and slide presentation (art vocabulary, art skills, photo references) -50 minutes to sketch, draw and ask questions -5 minutes to share DRAWING TECHNIQUES -Drawing and sketching with simple shapes -Contour or Outline -Proportion -Shading and Value -Texture POSSIBLE LESSONS: -Portrait (how-to) -Portrait with emotion or expression (joy, anger, sadness, surprise) -Portrait with prop (sunglasses, hat) -Standing Figure -Seated Figure -Figure in Action (athlete, dancer, running, jumping, lifting, reaching) -Figure doing everyday activity (eating, singing, cooking, sewing) Faces/Portraits: Surprised expression, windy day, frustrated expression, silly hat day, cheerful expression. People: dancer, athlete, walking on the beach, sitting at a restaurant, walking the dog, windy day. I enjoy drawing with the students, providing instruction and gentle feedback as we draw together. I encourage students to follow along until the basic shapes and structure are established, and then if they choose to, they add their own creative ideas and details. At the end of class we will take time for sharing (my favorite part!) Sharing is encouraged but not required. I strive to create a nonjudgmental and supportive classroom environment.
