Private Beginner Guitar Lessons (Semester)
In this semester long course, beginner guitar students will learn the basics of playing guitar to begin the music journey! Each student will have their own learning plan made specifically for them and will learn a variety of songs and chords.

In this Semester long course, students will have the opportunity to learn guitar, no matter what level they are currently at! We will begin by addressing prior knowledge (if any), and determine where to begin. Each student that signs up for this course will work one-on-one with me. We will work together and create their own individual learning plan. We will begin by learning the parts of the guitar, and what each one is used for. Then we will begin learning basic chords to put into songs, as well as different strumming, patterns to use with our songs. Finally we will start off with basic TABs, and throughout the semester begin working on more difficult TABs while using all of our strings! We will tentatively follow this schedule (skipping/reviewing anything the student already knows): 1. Learn different parts of a guitar 2. Learn different tools used with a guitar 3. How to tune a guitar 4. Finger placements for Em and Am 5. Finger placements for G and Cadd9 chords with down strum 6. Use chords in songs; Shake it Off, Old Town Road, Blinding Lights, and Dance Monkey 7. Learn how to play basic tabs through a mystery song game 8. Finger placements for D and A 9. Work on different chord progressions with 4 chords learned 10. Work on up/down strum patterns 11. Finger placements for Dm and F 12. Continue working on tabs with more difficulty. Students will have the ability throughout the entire semester to make song requests of different songs they may wish to learn. We will look at the chords, TABs, and strumming patterns used with them as well. Note: Each student will follow their OWN learning plan, so it is not possible to write out exactly how the semester will look as students all learn at their own pace. I view each student as an individual learner; we will learn at their level and at their pace!

Hello Outschool Community!
My name is Sarah Trommer and I am 29 years old. I currently live in Houston, Texas with my husband, 18 month old son, and 2 month old daughter. Prior to that I lived in Florida and Louisiana as I am a military spouse and we have to move every couple of years!
On Outschool, I am excited to be able to offer classes all about music, songwriting, and guitar.
If you can't tell, I am a lover of all things music! I am self taught in guitar, ukulele, and piano and love making music through songwriting too. Music has always been such an important part of my life, as it has helped me have a way of expressing my thoughts and feelings. My hope in teaching with Outschool is that students will be able to have the same opportunity for expression that I was able to have growing up.
Although I have no educational background in teaching or music, it has not stopped me from sharing what I love with others. My style of teaching is not always traditional or by the book, but we always have fun and learn in fun and unique ways.
Over the last several years, I have given music lessons to a number of students and have loved every minute of it! I believe it is my job, as a teacher, to create a fun and safe environment for students. I will always strive to make my classroom fun, safe, and engaging for your students.
