Class Experience

In this private art class, your learner will explore art history through drawing and painting. I will put together a personalized schedule of classes for your learner. Stay as many or as few lessons as you would like!

Learners will be introduced to great artists and have an opportunity to create their own masterpieces using inspiration and information gained from these artists. These classes combine art appreciation and art making for young learners that is developmentally appropriate.

These lessons will cover some of the great artists that have produced work through the ages, which leads to an understanding of art appreciation. Learners will develop their sense of imagination and creativity while exploring art projects and have opportunity to express themselves in a visual context.

We will briefly discuss the famous artist and the art piece. Next, learners will create their own works of art, inspired by the work and lives of the famous artists presented. The teacher will provide step by step instructions for the projects.

These lessons offer a lot of drawing exploration, as well as the opportunity to explore painting. Each lesson we will focus on one great artist and we will re-create art in the style of the master. I also love to share stories and facts from the artists' lives.

The learner will be able to create their art piece based on the artist, but in their own style and with their own personality and creativity. The lesson will allow time for the learner to create their art piece and be proud of what they create.

These lessons will offer art activities to expand the creative experience and awareness of learners in visual arts. Learners will explore the styles and techniques of the world’s greatest artists. The most important aspects of the art projects are discovery, exploration and individual creativity. While learning discovering different styles, it is still up to the learner to decide exactly how their art will turn out.

While my directions are detailed, and I want students to become familiar with our famous artists, I also want students to be able to express their own creative voice. I encourage students to add their own unique details to make their artwork truly their own. As students work, I always make sure to provide feedback, encouragement, and additional instructions as needed.

Although each demonstration will be finished by the end of class, your learner may want to continue working on their masterpiece after class. Everyone works at a different speed, and it's better to take our time than to rush!

No prior knowledge of art skills or techniques are needed for this class.

Each lesson will not only include art instruction, but also historical context.

Learners will understand and appreciate how humankind created art in the Prehistoric times and in ancient Egypt, how living modern artists create art now, and the periods of art in-between then and now. The following is a list of the time periods taught:

1. Prehistoric Art
2. Ancient Greek Art

Drawing techniques taught may include but are not limited to stippling, hatching, cross hatching, shading and contrast.

Watercolor painting techniques will covered may include but are not limited to wet on dry, wet on wet, lifting color for mistakes, variegated washes and crayon resist as needed for the project.

Acrylic painting classes may include but are not limited to techniques such as blending, layering, dry brushing, and texturizing paintings.

It is important to note that the instruction on techniques will be incorporated into the particular project. (Not a separate lesson).

All of my projects are geared towards beginners, however, intermediate students are welcome!

Lessons will be in a guided format with visual and audio step-by-step instructions. Creativity and fun will be emphasized in a relaxed setting. The learners will be encouraged to add their creative personal touches to their work. Learners will be encouraged to share their project at the end of the class and/or I will encourage the learner to upload their finished work to the classroom to share with me.
