Class Experience
The main job of an acting coach is to help actors get better fast. These one-on-one coaching sessions are offered weekly and can cover a multitude of young actors' needs with a multi-degree holding working artist and experienced teacher currently teaching acting at one of the top arts high schools in the county. Working privately with an acting coach is like going to the gym and working with a trainer for an actor - it's a chance for you to get better faster. This coaching covers: ✨professional theatre & on-camera auditions ✨college & conservatory auditions ✨school or local theatre auditions ✨personal scene & monologue work ✨acting through song ✨general personalized acting lessons in a more private class environment. Parents and students will communicate to the teacher in advance if they are going to be working with specific material that they themselves will provide - if not, the teacher will be able to provide some scenes/ monologues options to work on digitally at the beginning of the coaching. MEET YOUR COACH Victoria Tamez is a professional acting instructor, performing artist, director, producer, and founder of the Actors Conservatory Corner Studios. Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a bicoastal actor, singer, dancer, and teaching artist. I am currently the first-year acting teacher at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. My previous work as a theatre educator has been with organizations such as the Williamstown Theatre Festival’s Professional Training Program, TheatreWorkers Project, People’s Theatre Project, Shakespeare Re-mixed, and Trinity Theatre Project.
I began as a dancer so I have a full-body approach to performing and teaching acting. Some of my favorite topics to teach within acting studies include: Foundations in Acting, Text Analysis, Scene Study, Monologues, Auditioning, Voice & Speech, Movement, Physical Theatre, and Collage Theatre just to name a few. Within all of these areas of study the artists voice, body, and imagination are nurtured and strengthened - bringing more truth and organic belivability to their performances. It’s my goal that when students walk out of my classes, they have gained strong tools to keep in their artistic toolbox for life. Students will be able to take these professional level skills straight into the acting industry or sucessfully transfer them over to any other activity, academic subject, and career path. I’m currently working with students 14-17 during the weekdays at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.
I've also worked as a production intern with Ensemble Studio Theatre LA through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and have studied with the American Theatre Wing’s SpringboardNYC program. I've performed in Echo Theatre Company’s reading of DREAMHOU$E as well as off-Broadway as Ophelia in the solo show Hamlet & Ophelia with the Semicolon Theatre Company while also creating new, socially conscious, devised theatre in New York with Naked Angels (The Issues Lab Project). I've performed at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion with Shakespeare LA and traveled to Hangzhou, China to perform in the world premiere of Pacific Cinderella the Musical with the Hangzouh School of the Arts. Select past theatre credits include Danielle (Language of Angles), Hermione (The Winter’s Tale), Hermia (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Chloë (Arcadia). Web-series: Nina (The Clinic).
My passion lies in helping young students: cultivate their imaginations, develop their creative-critical thinking skills, express themselves through their bodies and voices fully, and work independently as well as collaboratively within an ensemble. I believe that quality theatre education should be accessible to everyone, and that the arts have the ability to be an agent for positive social change. I am a graduate of the LACHSA Theatre Department; I also holds both a BFA in Dramatic Arts and an MA in Arts Management & Entrepreneurship from The College of Performing Arts at The New School in New York City.
