Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 11
Beginner Level
Practice can make perfect when it comes to the Reading sections of the SAT and ACT. Get personalized 1:1 help in this weekly ongoing class as we get lots of guided practice with all of the different types of questions and reading passages you may find on the SAT or ACT.

You asked, and we listened!

We’ve added even more of a question-based focus and even more interactive elements for students! In this newly revamped format, we designed the lessons around a particular question type each week instead of a passage. For example, we could focus on the "Words in Context" questions for one week, starting with tips for that question type. This allows students to focus on the SKILLS needed for a particular question type!

In the main part of the class, we pull questions of that type from a couple of different SAT & ACT passages and put them into a poll format with the answer choices.

After you have marked your best guess, we will have a detailed discussion on why each answer choice was correct or incorrect.

In the second half of class, we will complete another round of polls with more challenging passages and questions.

Finally, we would have a full passage with questions available in a self-graded Google Form at the end of class. This way, students will still get practice on a full passage, it will grade their assignment and give explanations for each question, and students can choose whether or not they would like to practice it in a timed or untimed atmosphere.

We also provide an optional growth log, where students can record the day they took the practice test, their score, write the questions they missed and why they missed it, and keep adding to it each week to track their own improvement.

Brittney Shaw
**ABOUT MS. BECKY**
Teaching--especially in English, writing, and language arts--is a true passion of mine. I graduated Cum Laude from Kansas State University in 2010 with a Secondary Education degree in English and Journalism, and then went on to teach in the public schools before setting off on my own as an online teacher and tutor.

My philosophy of education is to make it as fun, personalized, and as interactive as possible for the kids. I always try to even out my direct instruction/lecture time with plenty of opportunities for students to practice these new skills, take polls, play review games, and collaborate with peers.

I am happily married to my husband Brad, and we have two beautiful daughters, Sophia and Elise. We currently reside in Kansas in a small town, and we love the small town life.

Oh, and Zerr is pronounced "Zarr," so it rhymes with "car." 😉
