US Grade 5 - 8
In this two-week course, learners will work on one passage, either fiction or nonfiction. The purpose of the class is to read the passage for meaning, direct and inferred, and interpret the prompt to gather relevant information necessary to construct a brief, well-developed written response. Work will be done on an engaging and interactive shared screen, which will be saved and continued for the second class. The passage complexity will not increase. Learners who repeat the class will alternate between fiction and nonfiction passages. Learners will be taught best practice strategies to guide the development of each written response. Strategies include sequential components to incorporate into a response and citation transitions. Learners will increase awareness of key vocabulary and text features presented in the passage and prompt. Additionally, learn how to utilize visual aids as relevant information supporting the passage. These implemented strategies will guide learners to strengthen their knowledge-based skill sets. This class also offers a sibling discount of 10%. To receive a sibling discount; the first learner must have paid enrollment. To maintain a sibling discount, there must be one learner with paid enrollment at the time of a sibling enrollment. There is no limit to sibling discounts. Parents must request sibling discounts prior to enrolling so the price can be adjusted, and a private link can be sent.
Learning Goals
Learners will improve their ability to understand a passage and prompt to gather key information and write a brief written response.
