US Grade 3 - 9
This is an individualized one-on-one tutoring class. Private tutoring sessions allow for students to build confidence and skills in areas where they need some extra focus or desire additional practice. I have over 30 years of teaching experience, spanning all ages from preschool to adult, and am happy to provide learners with an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming school year or simply fine tune their skills in a variety of areas. I'm ready to offer help across a variety of academic subjects, but my area of greatest expertise is English Language Arts. I can offer extra attention in the areas of reading, grammar, literary analysis, spelling, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and other Language Arts studies. My strengths as a teacher include calm patience, gentle encouragement, and clear explanations. These qualities allow me to make strong connections with my students, and help me to encourage a learner's focused attention and effective practice. COURSE NOTES: 1. Students may use this as a one-time class (enroll for just one week), if that is all that is needed. Or, they can continue for as many weeks as necessary to meet their goals. 2. Clear communication from parents about their goals and their learner's specific needs is appreciated. This will help me to be better prepared to offer effective help so that I can meet both parent and student expectations. 3. I am willing to consider using a specific curriculum chosen by the learner or family, or simply create lessons based on the learners chosen focus. 4. This class is listed in 15 minute sessions. Classes may be booked back-to-back for extended time. I am happy to help your learner in any way that I can. If I feel that I am not equipped to help in a particular area, I will always be honest about that so that you can find the best help available. Here are just a few of the areas where I can offer assistance: Reading: *comprehension checks and tips *fluency practice *vocabulary building *literary analysis practice Writing: *work together with a student to edit or revise drafts *give simple suggestions and a listening ear for students' work Homework Help: *helping students stay focused on homework tasks/being a homework monitor *offering additional explanation and examples for specific homework tasks *discussing and correcting the mistakes noted on graded homework Test Prep: *quiz students over specific information (provided to me ahead of time) *spelling list practice *working together to memorize facts or dates for assignments or tests *test taking skills, tips, and practice Examples of Other Areas of Study: Public Speaking Practice Study Skills Tips Social Skills - practice and help with basic relational skills ...and many more!
