Use Blocks to Literally Build a Paragraph: Writing for the Visual Learner

Welcome to Building Block Response Paragraph writing class! This ongoing class will help your learners solidify their paragraph writing skills. This class is especially helpful for visual learners. At the beginning of each class, we will build a response paragraph with building blocks in four different colors. There will also be a handout available that you can print off for your learner to reference. This handout is color-coded. Each sentence gets its own color. The learner will build a paragraph one color at a time. Building a paragraph physically, and seeing it visually, greatly demystifies the writing process. 

Each week the learner will be required to bring the handout and building blocks to class. We will build a paragraph out of blocks together and refer to the handout to double-check that our colors are all in the correct spots. Then the learners will write their own paragraphs responding to a prompt provided by me. It won't take long before your learner is feeling very comfortable and confident with response paragraphs. 

Response paragraphs are mini five-paragraph essays. Once your student feels confident with response paragraphs, essays will be a breeze. This is an ongoing class because different learners need different amounts of practice. Stick with us until your learner is brimming with confidence.
