I have my degree in creative writing because it's my passion! I've been a writer since I was 12 years old, I'm a first-line reader for a literary magazine, and I have my own work pending publication. In short, writing is my whole world and I would love the chance to share those skills and my love for writing with students! In this class, we will cover many different writing skills and styles while working on developing the student's own creative writing voice. Each week we will rotate between learning new skills, reading the work of other famous authors, and practicing on creative writing prompts. Students are also encouraged to share other projects they are working on or have completed in the past! Lessons will be personalized to meet the needs of students on an individual and age-appropriate basis. An example of some of the writing skills could be the following: -Fundamentals of writing: grammar, punctuation, and spelling -6 ways to start a sentence -The difference between compound and complex sentences -What is exposition and why do we not want to use too much of it? -Show don't tell writing style -20th-century stream of consciousness -Writing genre practice "tone and theme" -Story arc and narrative -Developing a strong character "dynamic/static" P.O.V. -Poetry reading and writing -Using dialogue -Developing a strong setting - why weather is important -Writing with the 5 W's and 5 senses -Images and sounds - using figurative language
