Homework
1-2 hours per week. There is no required or graded homework. However, extra practice is recommended. At the end of the session, I will share the session’s reading passage using google slides or pdfs. This can be used as homework. Please have your child reread the passage three times a day at least three days a week.
Assessment
Assessments aren't required but are recommended in order to keep your child moving forward in her/his reading journey. Assessments help me see a child's strengths and areas for growth. If needed, I will give a short reading assessment during the first session to get baseline information. This helps us work together to form individualized goals for your child. As needed, I will give quick informal assessments to make sure your child is progressing towards his or her goals.
Letter Grade
When requested at the start of tutoring: Grades are provided when I have worked with a student at least twice a week for a minimum of three months.
Progress Report
Upon request, for students that meet with me twice or more a week, I will give a monthly progress report.
Certificate of Completion
When requested at the start of tutoring: Certificates of completion are given when a child finishes a level. Grades are provided to students when I have worked with a student at least twice a week for a minimum of three months.

This one-on-one class is for older students that are in 3rd grade, 4th grade, or 5th grade and need intensive intervention and are reading at or below a 3rd grade level. This class is also for younger students in Kindergartener, 1st, or 2nd grade and are ready to begin their reading journey or get ahead in reading. I also help support homeschool students and I am available to give consultations, curriculum guidance and/or assessments. The lessons are geared to your child’s learning needs and use Orton Gillingham methods and teach phonics sequentially. Your child’s outline of the class will vary depending on your child’s needs.

Here is a sample outline of a lesson:
Sounds visual
Sounds auditory
Blending
Phonemic awareness
Sight/Red words
New or review skill
New words to read

Spelling basics and/or writing dictation

These are a sampling of topics I teach for this class:

Letters: names, sounds and handwriting
Syllables
Alliteration
Rhyming
Blending
Segmenting
Phonics

Sight Words
Fluency
Basic Comprehension

My teaching style is explicit and direct instruction. This means I will introduce the activity and model it before having the learner perform the activity and all throughout the activity as needed. The class is structured for active participation through, slides, pictures and short decodable phrases, sentences, and passages.

Other Details

Learning Needs
I have worked with students with: ADHD, Dyslexia, ASD, DLD, 504's, & IEPS. I support these learners by having a variety of short interactive multi-sensory activities, 30-minute sessions, and breaking concepts into smaller chunks.
Supply List
A headset with microphone or a standalone microphone is highly recommended to help me help your child clearly pronounce the sounds that letter makes. When saying sounds in isolation many built in microphones aren't sensitive enough to pick up single sounds.

For students that are Kindergarten to 1st grade:
9x12 Dry Erase White Board
Black Dry Erase Marker
Eraser, Sock or Felt to use as Eraser

Older students may use the above or Zoom's annotation tool.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
I use my own material as well as materials created by other special education, reading and dyslexia specialists that I have permission to share with my students. This way you only have to pay for printing the materials, or you can choose to view them online if you prefer.
