Class experience
Beginner Level
Class begins with a light hearted opener activity to inspire creativity and connection. Learners will learn a process to create a print plate starting with a photo that they've selected before class. The plate will be used to create different versions of the self portrait with varied backgrounds. Students will be guided to add creative individual touches to add interest to the finished work. I will demonstrate and describe each step, while inviting questions and checking in with students...
Gain printmaking and design skills as they learn to create the portraits series. Learn a basic printmaking vocabulary, how to use the printmaking tools we engage with and brief history of printmaking. Learn about a diverse range of printmaking artists and their work. Finish class with at least one portrait print and the ability to continue to create different versions of the artwork.
I am a multi media teaching artist, both in classroom and virtual, serving artist in residence programs, Title 1 schools, youth shelters, and art programs for incarcerated youth. I'm a public speaker, science podcast co-creator, and leader of teacher-training workshops in arts integration topics at local and national arts education conferences. My classes create opportunities for students to discover connections to learning through art experiences and inquiry while encouraging the exploration of their unique ideas and perspectives.
I always appreciate knowing any accommodations I can make to help your learner feel welcome and successful in class.
I will send the exact supply list and links for suggested sources, upon enrollment. Materials include: Paper for printing-copier paper is fine Block printing ink or acrylic paints (block printing ink works best) Ink breyer Foam printing sheets Printout of intended portrait-a copy of a photo
