Assessment
Students will be asked to read 8 CVC words and 2 sentences correctly and complete the timing at the end of the course to earn their certificate.Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
In this class, students will be given a brief overview of how to put letter sounds together to read words. Then they will practice reading words to help Fairy Godmother gather all of the things Cinderella needs to get ready for the ball. They will then be introduced to simple sentences made up of 3-letter words. We will play another game that requires them to continue practicing those 3-letter, CVC words and we will end with a timing (much like the timings they might see for beginning and end of year kindergarten testing). Throughout the class, your child will be encouraged by short clips from the Disney movie "Cinderella" (this will be done via screen sharing YouTube clips that are part of my PowerPoint). For students who are already familiar with CVC words and just want more practice, we will start with a timing, practice together, and end with a timing to see if they improved their score. Upon completion of the class, students will earn a certificate of completion, which will be sent digitally.
Learning Goals
This class serves two purposes. It is meant to bridge the gap between knowing letter names and sounds and putting them together to read words. It is also meant to help students practice for beginning or end of year kindergarten testing where they will be asked to read as many CVC words as quickly as they can.
