US Grade 6 - 7
Come and join us in this weekly, ongoing Science Labs class for 4th and 5th grades. Build a volcano. Watch yeast in action. Grow mold. Make a comet. Launch paper rockets. Explore friction and more. Every week we will learn about a scientific topic and then do a hands-on lab, project, or experiment based on the topic. Weekly topics are drawn from Earth, Life, and Physical Sciences. Topics are self-contained so students can drop-in for a specific class or attend weekly. This class is designed for students from all types of educational settings. Students in regular schools, online students, homeschoolers ... all students are welcome. Hands-on learning enhances a student's knowledge of a scientific topic and labs are the fun part of learning. There are materials that each student MUST have for the weekly class. Materials are usually things you have around your house. Please make sure you have the materials necessary for that week's class. There will be a materials list for each class posted on the class page every week. Please have the materials available. Substitutions will not work in many classes. This is the master list students should have every week. (Note: We may not use these items in every class, but they are the most commonly used items in this class.) Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Minors: Biology, Chemistry, and Writing
Hello. I am Annette the Teacher. I can't wait to teach you here on Outschool.
My educational philosophy is to foster the growth and knowledge of my students through personalized, project-based, and collaborative learning. I believe in nurturing every student's quest for knowledge through Activity-Based Learning. Learning should be fun. My classes are based on hands-on learning projects. In my classes, you get into the action with experiments, activities, projects, crafts, cooking, and more.
I have been teaching for many years. I have over three decades of experience teaching children of all ages. I have a B.A. in Sociology with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. I have homeschooled my children from Pre-School through their High School graduations. All of my classes are interactive. I encourage students to fully participate in class. My classes feature hands-on activities, books, and worksheets I write for the class. No matter the subject, my classes get the students involved.
I have been working as a tutor for 10+ years.
I am a writer and artist. I use my extensive knowledge and experience to create unique classes for every student. I enjoy teaching science, history, and art classes. I bring history alive with my "Big History ..." classes where students learn about key times in history through interactive lessons and projects. "Paint like ... Famous Artists" art classes where students learn about famous artists and create their own artwork based on the artists' works. "Smart Science" classes where we explore science and complete experiments and projects. I know hands-on, interactive experiences are the best way for children to learn.
I also have experience working with Special Needs children. I am Mom to a child on the autism spectrum and a child with serious medical needs and ADHD. If your child has special needs, please contact me so I can work with you and your child.
I can't wait to share my lifelong love of learning with you. There is so much knowledge out there, come and discover it with me!
