Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Beginner Level
Following the UK national curriculum for Science, we will focus on our experimental skills and Scientific investigations. Students can choose from a given selection of listed experiments to complete during the last lesson- choices include; making the biggest crystals; mixtures mix up; rusty nails; shark attack!; chocolate rocks; paper helicopters; frogs spawn slime; making ice cream; invisible inks. Students who start 1 or 2 lessons later than the start date should be able to catch up as we frequently recap previous content as the start of each lesson. Classes will be frequently run throughout the year so I would suggest waiting for the next series of lessons to complete the whole course from the beginning.
An overview of what will be taught is as follows:
•	Lesson 1- Predicting, errors and writing a good method
•	Lesson 2- Risk assessment and scientific variables
•	Lesson 3- Graphs
•	Lesson 4- Interpreting data and conclusions/ improvements
•	Lesson 5- Planning and carrying out our practical of choice

Lessons are fairly structured and will have a mixture of individual tasks, group activities for collaborative learning by following a PowerPoint and working through a planning worksheet (lesson 5). We often use quizzes, interactive whiteboards and games to consolidate knowledge. It is useful for students to have a general knowledge of science but not entirely necessary as I can adapt lessons as we go along for the group!
Learning Goals
Students will work to plan and carry out a scientific investigation, using age appropriate skills to come up with a valid conclusion and improvements for their chosen experiment.
