Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 10
The PRIDE Reading Program is a structured literacy, Orton-Gillingham curriculum for children of all ages. This curriculum uses engaging, multisensory methods to teach reading, writing, spelling, and comprehension.
Orton-Gillingham was developed specifically to teach struggling and non-readers how to read, write, spell and comprehend. While the method works with all children, it is especially successful for children with dyslexia, auditory and visual processing disorder, speech deficits, and other learning differences. By utilizing this multisensory approach, you will be able to teach your students in the way that they need to learn.

The PRIDE Reading Program consists of 6 levels (Levels 1-5), and a Pre-reading program

***Beginning Consonants Program- White Book- Beginning Consonants are for students who are ready to learn or are struggling with letter recognition.

LEVEL (1)-Yellow Book is designed to help your student learn their short vowels, FLOSS spelling rules, consonant digraphs, blends and sight words.
LEVEL (2) Orange Book is designed to help your student learn their long vowels, multisyllabic words, welded sounds (ang, ink, etc.) and sight words.
LEVEL (3) Red Book-is designed to help your student learn words with long “i” and “e” patterns, vowel digraphs, closed syllable rules (-ind, -ild, -old, -ost) and suffix ed.
LEVEL (4) Purple Book- is designed to help your student learn vowel diphthongs, 3+ syllables, suffix es and syllable c+le
(-ble, -fle, -kle, etc.)
LEVEL (5)- Blue Book-designed to help your student learn open syllables, vowel diphthongs, silent letters, spelling rules, soft C & G, schwa sounds, and common suffixes & prefixes.

********* Students will learn through fun multisensory activities such as skywriting, arm tapping, letter building, sound association, and visualization.

Additional Program
Reading Comprehension Program-- (Black & White Book)-The PRIDE Reading Comprehension Program is designed to help your student learn to build reading comprehension skills with the introduction to concepts such as sequencing, predicting, visualizing, inferencing, and summarizing.
Through carefully combined explicit and direct instruction with reading, writing, drawing, and language activities, your student will practice and demonstrate their developing reading comprehension abilities.
This program is designed for students who are in the upper levels of the PRIDE Reading Program or who need help acquiring reading comprehension skills.

It will take at least 22 weeks to complete an "entire book'' from this program series. However, I have chosen to split the sessions into 2- 11-week sessions for those who are not ready to commit to 22 weeks at once. Please keep in mind that the student would have only completed half the book if they stop at Part 1. Part 2 of this class must be completed in order to finish an entire book from the series.

The tutoring sessions will be two days a week for 55 minutes per session. It takes at least forty hours of instruction time for a student to move up" one level". The PRIDE Reading Program Placement will help determine where your student should begin the program. The placement level is not correlated to grade level. This placement supports all PRIDE Reading Program levels from Beginning Consonants to the Blue Book. Once the assessment is completed, then the virtual student workbook can be purchased by the parent. This needs to be completed prior to the first tutoring session.
Pre-meeting instructions-----
1. Enroll
2. Have students take Pride Assessment to determine where they should begin in the program. Once this is determined, I will let
the parent know what book should be purchased.
3. Purchase specified E-Book for the class.
*****That's it!!! The student is now ready for their first tutoring session.

This is a virtual program that will be completed in the " zoom" classroom. Students will be using interactive e-books to complete the lessons. The PRIDE eBook gives students the ability to access and save their progress and includes interactive sound cards, letter tiles, and blending drills that are integrated into the eBook.

******The e-book will require written answers, therefore, an iPad and stylus will be better suited for work that needs to be completed. ***** The student needs to be able to share their screens often with me throughout the lesson so that I can view their work as they complete instructions. This is crucial. If a student is not able to do this independently, I would not recommend this class.
