US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
This ongoing class, which meets once a week, is for Preschoolers, Kindergarteners, and anyone wanting to learn their basics (ages 3-7). In each class, we will work on 2 letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make, as well as how to print them. Student may be challenged to think of words that start with that letter/sound. Using props and pictures we will talk about words that start with each letter. (Please note that the letters taught may not necessarily go in order through the alphabet, but often will be paired together according to their relationship with each other and how we often find them together in words. For example: "a" and "t" may be taught together to help students recognize "at" words such as, "sat" and "bat".) Each lesson will also include one other foundational topic such as numbers, colours, days of the week, weather words, feeling words, etc. Elements such as games, activities, songs, props, and 2D visuals will be used to help learners practice and remember what they are learning. Schedule is subject to change at the teacher's discretion and will be updated periodically. Learning Goals
The goal of this course is to have students learn and practice the names and sounds of the letters of the alphabet. Once a student knows the sounds each letter makes they can then practice blending those sounds together which in turn leads to being able to read words. Besides focusing on letters, students will also have the opportunity to explore things such as feeling words, how to describe the weather and days of the week.

Supply List
Please have your learner bring a writing tools, such as a pencil, pen, or marker, and something to write on, such as paper, or a whiteboard, to practice writing the letters. Tracer books, sand tracing trays, etc. all work great as well. Some students have been practicing their letters for a while and do not need assistance. Other students are brand new to letters and may need your help during the letter writing portion of class. Some parents write the letter themselves for their student to trace, or outline the letter using dots for their learner to connect the dots. This can be done during the class if you wish, or you can check the schedule in the class description and have the letters pre-written for your learner.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello. My name is Miss Connie and it is so nice to meet you. Thank you for checking out my profile.
Teaching language to students is fun and challenging (we have so many exceptions to the rule). Things such as letter names and sounds, consonant blends and digraphs, word recognition and blending, regular and irregular plurals, creating sentences using descriptive words, and so on, are rewarding to teach, because with all of these things comes growth in the ability to read, write and communicate.
I have always been fascinated by the uniqueness and diversity of animals. They are so many cool and interesting ones out there. Did you know that a blue whale’s tongue weighs more than the average elephant? Or that butterflies taste with their feet? I enjoy incorporating animals into my lessons when I can and hope to offer some classes soon on some specific animals.
I really enjoy working with kids and youth and feel privileged to have worked with them for over 25 years in various capacities including teaching in classroom settings, in community programs, in school assemblies, for homeschool organizations, at summer camps and retreats, at my church, and in online classrooms. Kids and youth are amazing people, each with their own likes, dislikes, personalities, skills, etc. It’s really is cool to meet each one and get to know them a little as we learn and grow.
Besides a love for teaching, I also love playing sports and games with my kids (especially basketball and dutch blitz), being creative with arts and crafts, and getting out in nature (beaches and mountains are both awesome!).
I look forward to meeting many amazing young people and hope to bring fun and excitement to the classroom as we learn and grow.
