Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
This is an engaging and interactive full year PreKindergarten class. Taught by a licensed and experienced Pre-K teacher. As a teacher, I understand the value of participation in academics and socialization. Therefore, I provide frequent opportunities for my learners to actively participate in lessons. I do this by presenting material through digital games, books, calendar time, directed drawings and songs! Learners will have ample time to build relationships with each other through frequent opportunities to share.

Quick overview of what we will cover: Recognizing letters and sounds, colors, animals, holidays, shapes, recognizing numbers and sequence, skip counting, rhyming, simple sight words, introduction to reading simple books, social skills, patterns, days of the week, months of the year, letter and number formation, basic writing skills

Math: Many math skills will be taught through Calendar time. We will cover counting, number recognition and formation, skip counting, patterns etc.

Social Studies: Social/Emotional: Show and Tell, occasional themed Weeks (apples, skeletons, arctic animals etc) , costume days, social stories.

Reading: We will begin by practicing the basics. For example, learners work on recognizing letters, letters in their name, letter sounds, letter formation and sight words. As the year progresses, we will move onto reading a book by ‘reading’ the picture to reading simple sight word books.

Writing: Skills will be built from the very beginning and progress as the year goes on. We will start with the basics of how to draw a person, to letter and number formation and end with drawing out a story sequence. Many learners are often able to label their drawings by the end of the year.

Science: Topics will be taught through themes. Themes include but are not limited to apples, pumpkins, skeletons, nocturnal animals, oviparous animals, float/sink, butterflies etc. We will also conduct simple experiments!

Social/Emotional: Topics will be taught on occasion. Learners will be given opportunities to share their drawings or art work with their peers. They will also have opportunities to share through Show and Tell.
