What's included
6 live meetings
5 in-class hoursHomework
1-2 hours per week. I believe in practicing math skills to achieve mastery of a topic. Practice problems will be given in a game format (when possible) associated with each class topic and evaluated per week.Class Experience
US Grade 8 - 11
In this class, we will review middle school math, preparing students for success in algebra. There will be a review of the daily topic, and then some example problems are worked together. I will ask questions to encourage interaction and build confidence. Since this class is a summer review, it will move quickly and there will be additional problems offered for extra practice. Practice is important for mastering the concept and for success. **Please make careful note of the days in each section, as they may not be consistent for both weeks. **If you would like to see a different time, please make a request and I will try to accommodate. Other options available are 1:1 review sessions or one time concept classes.
Learning Goals
Students will master pre-algebra and middle school concepts and be ready and confident for Algebra 1

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree from Texas A&M University
I love teaching about math and physics. I have a degree in engineering, but I have always enjoyed math and tutoring. I tutored math and physics in college and I am getting back into it after working as a Professional Engineer and then raising kids for a bit.
I have a few mindsets I approach teaching and tutoring with. The first is that everyone starts somewhere. Students struggle in different areas, and even with different topics of math, while they may excel in others. I always encourage my students that they can learn hard subjects and that we can work together to make them make sense. I also like to get to know a students learning style and teach based on their individual style. I can teach concepts from different perspectives to help a student understand well. I like to ask leading questions and guide a student through problem solving until they are comfortable working problems independently.
Even though this is Outschool, I firmly believe the best path to mastery of math and physics is two-fold: understanding the physical or visual concept, as well as practice. Practice will mean working and solving problems.
Some of my hobbies are kayaking, fishing, reading and gardening. I have two daughters and two kitties.
