This is a continuation class from Pre-K Phonics and Reading Pt. 1. However, if you did not take Pt. 1, being able to recognize the following letters and sounds will be beneficial: M, A, P, S, T, B, H, G. Also, being able to recognize the following words I, am, the, and a. The children will be immersed in activities that involve letter recognition (upper and lowercase) as we go through the alphabet (not in sequence). This course will focus on identifying 10 letters and their sounds, isolating beginning, middle and ending sounds, some blending, sight words and rhyming words. Bonus: children will practice writing their name as well. The weeks will go as follows: Week 1 Letters I and K Week 2 Letter D (sight word: and) Week 3 Letters N Week 4 Letter R (sight word: is) Week 5 Letters L and O Week 6 Letter C (sight word: to ) Week 7 Letter J Week 8 Letter F (sight word: me) The class will begin with an alphabet chant/song, a vowel song and blending practice. Then there will be an introduction to the letter of the week. I will have letter cards, pictures, or objects etc. that begin with that letter. We will practice saying its name and sound. Throughout the week, the children will be given chances to distinguish that letter and sound among other letters using slides, work sheets, scavenger hunts and many other activities. I will provide worksheets for them to use, so they can practice writing their name and identifying the letter and sound everyday. They will need a marker or crayon to use with the worksheets. This class will begin the Monday after Part 1 ends. No classes the week of November 23rd.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Everyone!
My name is Ms. Celeste and I've been a teacher for 20 years. I've spent most of that time with pre-k through second grade with time in the middle of those years as a Basic Skills Coordinator for third through fifth grades. I've also worked with college students in conjunction with the Basic Skills program as a facilitator to pair students with young college adults. I have a B.A from Rutgers University in New Jersey and I hold two teaching certificates, one for Preschool through Second Grade and the other is Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.
When I am not teaching, I like to engross myself in anything creative or "artsy", whether that is acting, photography, or painting.
I am so excited to make this switch from brick and mortar schools to teaching online with Outschool. I look forward to working with your children to provide them with fun and engaging activities and lessons.
See you soon!
Ms.Celeste
