US Grade 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Class: 8th Grade Math Tutoring Topics Covered: Integers/Integer rules, Order of Operations, One-Step Equations, Two-Step Equations, Exponent Rules (Multiplying, Dividing, Power to a Power, Negative Exponents), Rational vs. Irrational Numbers and Explain Differences, Linear Equations, Slope, Identify three-dimensional objects (cylinder, right rectangular prisms, spheres, cones, pyramids) and solve equations related to them. Class Structure/Teaching Style: *Meet & Greet -2 minutes *Discuss prior meeting/what content is currently being learned/what is the learner finding challenging 2-3 minutes *Discuss vocab and important rules for the lesson 5 minutes *Teacher-led examples while pausing for understanding/notes *Practice together *Independent problem-solving - I will be with you every step of the way! Your initial 1-2 practice problems I will pause at errors to help you evaluate and fix. As you progress, you will complete a problem then be checked for accuracy. *Facilitator-style learning - Guiding students through the process after providing examples. Method: *Zoom *Note-taking - Student will take direct notes from instructor by hand or typing them. Instructor will provide content via verbal example, digital white board, slides, etc. *Instructor will provide example problems while discussing the process of the topic. Learners are encouraged to complete the problem with the instructor and highly encouraged to ask instructor to pause and explain if clarification is needed. *Learner will independently practice problems with instructor actively overseeing work to clarify math rules and instructions as well as check for accuracy both in work shown and final answer given. Learner/Teacher Interaction: *Benchmark - It is highly suggested that the learner complete the benchmark assessment sent prior to the first session to identify where the student is academically within the content and provides a data point for progress monitoring. *Note-taking *Question & answer *Slides *Digital whiteboard work *Video clips *Content-specific review/practice games
