Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
This Pre-Algebra class is part 3 of 4. Your student does not need to have completed parts 1 and 2 to be successful in this class. In the pre-Algebra class, the learner will continue to build on their math skills and gain skills to continue to move forward in math. We will be learning about the geometry of 2-D and 3-D figures, points, lines, planes, angles, graphing equations, graphing inequalities, functions, systems of equations, adding equations, and more. This class does move quickly however I adjust the class based on the learner's needs and understanding.
I follow a method of teaching the concept, the learner(s) practice the concept with me, and then I check for understanding by having the learner practice the concept on their own. I make sure to allow time for questions.
Each week the learner will be given a practice sheet to complete on their own time. I review the practice sheet at the beginning of each session.

The following is a weekly breakdown of the concepts taught:
Week 1: Plane Geometry, 2-D shapes
Week 2: Congruency and symmetry
Week 3: 3-D shapes
Week 4: Nets, mass, density, time and velocity
Week 5: Points, lines, planes, and special angles
Week 6: Coordinate plane, two-variable equations, graphing equations, and inequalities
Week 7: Functions, slope, y-intercept, and system of equations
Week 8: Adding equations, Fahrenheit and celsius conversion
